Sharing files between Android and iOS devices has always been a hassle. Android phones do not support AirDrop, and iPhones do not support Quick Share. However, OnePlus with OPPO and Realme has introduced a new file sharing feature called Share with iPhone / O+ Connect to make cross-platform file sharing easier. Here’s how to transfer files from OnePlus to iPhone using the O+ Connect app and see if it offers any advantages over existing options.

Prerequisites

  2. On your OnePlus, select the files or photos you want to share and tap the Share option.
  3. In the share menu, select Share with iPhone.
  4. Your OnePlus phone will automatically enable the Wi-Fi hotspot and display all the iPhones with the O+ Connect app open.
  5. Tap on the name of the iPhone you want to share the file with.
  6. On your iPhone, accept the file and tap Join to connect to the hotspot.

Transferring files from an iPhone to a OnePlus device is also possible using the O+ Connect app. Here’s how to do it:

  1. On your iPhone, select the file or photo that you want to share and tap the Share option.
  2. In the share menu, select the O+ Connect app.
  3. On your OnePlus, enable the Share with iPhone toggle in the quick settings menu. Alternatively, you can open Settings > Connection & Sharing > Share with iPhone and enable the toggle there.
  4. This will make your OnePlus phone visible to iPhones for the next 10 minutes by turning on the hotspot. Tap on your OnePlus phone’s name on your iPhone to start the transfer.
  5. You will be prompted to connect to the hotspot; tap Join.
  6. On your OnePlus, accept the file to start the transfer.
  7. Wait for the transfer to complete. Keep the devices close to maintain a strong connection.

Once the transfer is completed, the files will be available in the Photos or Files app on your OnePlus. The hotspot on your OnePlus will automatically turn off.

Final Thoughts on O+ Connect for File Transfers

While this new OxygenOS 15 feature provides a built-in way to transfer files between your OnePlus phone and iPhone, it does not offer any significant advantages over existing methods. You can use apps like LocalSend that are open-source and work across Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and even Linux.

The O+ Connect or Share with iPhone feature also does not provide speed benefits. The default AirDrop and Quick Share are much faster. Although you do not need to install an app on your OnePlus phone, you still need to install the O+ Connect app on your iPhone.

Overall, it’s great that we now have a native way to transfer files, but in practice, there is no real advantage. Good to have though.
