How to Use iPhone’s Clean Up Feature on Any iPhone

Want to use iOS 18’s Clean Up feature on any iPhone? Apple has finally added an object remover tool to its Photos app, allowing you to remove any object or person from your pictures. Unfortunately, it’s a part of Apple Intelligence which is only supported on iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and the upcoming iPhone 16 series.

But little did you know that you don’t need Apple AI to remove unwanted stuff from your photos. Let me show you some handy alternatives to Apple’s Clean Up tool for iPhone 15 or older models.

Many of you use Google Photos to view, edit, or back up photos. However, not everyone is aware that it has Magic Eraser, which works just like the Clean Up tool and is completely free to use. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Open the image in the Google Photos app and tap Edit.
  2. Go to the Tools section and select Magic Eraser.
  3. Google will then use its AI to analyze the picture and suggest what you might want to remove. If you don’t like the suggestion, you can manually circle or scribble on any object or person to remove them from the image.
  4. Once finished, hit the Done button. AI will now fill in the space as if the object never existed in the first place.

To give you an idea of the difference between the iPhone’s Clean Up tool and Google’s Magic Eraser, we’ve provided a side-by-side comparison for you:

As you can see, both iOS 18’s Clean Up tool and Google’s Magic Eraser did a good job of removing people from the background. Apple’s tool seems slightly more effective in this case, but results may vary, and sometimes multiple tries are needed.
