Twitter deletes posts that have extreme levels of violence or sexuality. It also hides media and profiles that posts potentially sensitive or disturbing content under a warning message. Twitter hides such content by default. If you prefer to remove the warning message, get explicit results in search results, or post sensitive content yourself, here’s how to filter, view, and post sensitive content on Twitter.
The warning message is usually something like “This media may contain sensitive material” or “Caution: this Profile may include potentially sensitive content”. But you have the option to view the post bypassing the warning message.

How to View/Hide Sensitive Content on Twitter
Twitter hides all the sensitive content in the Twitter feed. But if you want to remove the warning message or want to make sure that the sensitive content stays hidden, you can easily do it on the web and Android apps. Twitter iOS and iPadOS apps don’t have this option. But you can change the settings on the web and the updates will reflect on all devices including iPhone.
1. Open the Twitter website and click on the More option in the left sidebar.
2. In the pop-up menu that opens, click on the Settings and privacy option.
3. On the Twitter settings page, select the Privacy and safety option.
4. Now on the right side pane, select the Content your see option.
5. Now enable Display media that may contain sensitive content. If you prefer to hide sensitive content, make sure the option is unchecked.
Enabling this option will remove the warning message on all sensitive content and display it directly.
How to Filter Sensitive Content in Twitter Search Results
While any sensitive content in the feed is hidden behind a warning message, all sensitive content gets filtered in the search results automatically. To stop Twitter from filtering sensitive content:
1. Open the Twitter website and click on the More option in the left sidebar.
2. Now select the Settings and privacy option.
3. Here select the Privacy and safety option.
4. Then in the right side, select the Content you see option.
4. Now select the Search settings option.
5. In the pop-up window that follows, uncheck Hide sensitive content.
How to Post Sensitive Content on Twitter
Twitter will automatically mark your posts as sensitive if the algorithm detects content that’s sexual, violent, and so on. However, users are allowed to to do it themself. By manually flagging your post as sensitive content, you can reduce the chances of getting your post deleted or account banned. To post and flag sensitive content correctly on Twitter:
1. Open the Twitter website and start composing a tweet by clicking on the Tweet button in the left sidebar.
2. Click on the image icon and upload a photo as you can only mark tweets as sensitive if it contains media.
3. Once uploaded, click on the Edit button on the photo.
4. In the pop-up window, select the tab with the flag icon.
5. Now under it, you can mark your post as of sensitive, violent, and nudity nature.
6. Now click on the Save button at the top to continue composing your tweet.
When you send the tweet, it will be marked as sensitive and will show a warning message that hides the image by default for other users. Note that the above steps have to be followed for each and every tweet that contains sensitive content. If you think you will upload sensitive content more often, you can set your profile to being as sensitive, so that all your tweets will be marked as sensitive by default. To do that:
1. Open the Twitter website, click on the More option in the sidebar and then select Settings and privacy.
2. Now select Privacy and safety, then select the Your Tweets option in the right-hand pane.
3. On the Your Tweets page, check Mark media you Tweet as having material that may be sensitive.
That’s it, all your tweets with media will be marked as sensitive moving forward. While people can still see them on your profile and home feed with a sensitive content warning message, these tweets will not be available in the search results to people who don’t want to see sensitive content.
Not So Sensitive Content
Irrespective of whether you mark content as sensitive or not, Twitter will delete your post or ban your Twitter account if it contains anything extreme. Also, if you think your media can be disturbing to anyone, then it is better to flag it as sensitive before uploading. Though Twitter does that automatically, it’s better to flag ourselves giving a clear idea to Twitter about the media you uploaded. However, whether you want to hide sensitive content on Twitter or not is totally up to you.
