Whether you wish to go back in time with Back to the Future or wish to explore a dystopian reality with Mad Max: Fury Road, there’s something for everyone. With a price of just $2.99 per month, it wants to strike a chord with consumers tired of paying $10-15 per month for other services.

Here’s what you can expect with Howdy:

  • Ad-free streaming with no interruptions
  • $2.99 per month, which isn’t just an introductory or trial price

Is It Another Netflix Competitor?

Unlike other streaming services that splurge a lot of money on new shows, Howdy is hoping that nostalgia and classic shows will attract the audience. The company is aware of this, with CEO Anthony Wood stating:

Priced at less than a cup of coffee, Howdy is ad-free and designed to complement, not compete with, premium services.

The company sees this as an extension of Roku and making TV “affordable, accessible and built for how people watch today”. It’s aimed at those looking for a low-cost streaming service without any ads apart from their existing services.

Howdy is looking to tap into the existing user base of 125 million Roku users by complementing their existing streaming library. While there are no bigwigs or original shows on Howdy, it’s designed to resonate with price-conscious consumers looking for a streaming service.

Howdy will be available within the Roku app starting today. However, the company states that there will be a separate app for mobile and other platforms in the near future.
