iPhone 15 Series: Is it Worth Upgrading Now

Apple recently unveiled its brand new iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max in its fall event. But the question is whether you should upgrade to the new iPhone 15 or which iPhone users should consider upgrading to the iPhone 15. In this article, we’ll explore the iPhone 15’s key features, compare them to previous iPhone models, delve into real-world benefits, consider budget implications, and help you figure out if it is worth upgrading to the iPhone 15 series or not.

Key Features and Improvements in iPhone 15 Series

With all the noise around the iPhone 15 series, it is important to understand what they offer to you as a user and if there is something to look forward to before you decide to upgrade.

Both iPhone 15 and 15 Plus borrow the A16 bionic chip from iPhone 14’s Pro models, which is known to deliver good CPU and powerful graphics.

Thanks to the EU, another significant change you will see on every iPhone 15 is a shift from lightning to a USB-C port for faster charging and data transfer speeds. However, there is a catch when it comes to the USB-C port.

Moving on, Apple introduced the iPhone 14 Pro series with Dynamic Island. This year, it is available in the base version of iPhone 15, i.e., iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. The major changes that you will see are in the Pro and Pro Max models.

Apple introduced the A17 Pro chip that comes with a 3-nanometer architecture, has higher efficiency, reduces power consumption, and overall increases the iPhone’s battery life. Not only this, the Pro and Pro Max versions now come with the new Action Button on the side instead of the earlier Mute Button. iPhone 15 base models will still rock the iconic Mute switch though.

Action Button is highly useful, and you can customize it as per your need to open a flashlight, act as a camera button, launch a shortcut, and even more. Did you hear that these two models are made of Titanium instead of Aluminium? Titanium is much lighter and stronger. By the way, titanium is what the Apple Wonderlust logo was eluding to if you were wondering.

Comparing iPhone 15 With Previous iPhone Models

Now, when we say previous iPhone models, we mean the iPhone 11, 12, 13, and 14 series. When we compare the iPhone 15 series with the iPhone 11, 12, and 13, the iPhone 15 stands out with significant changes under the hood.

From a lighter body to Dynamic Island, everything looks better. However, when compared to the iPhone 14 series, there isn’t much to talk about in terms of hardware or software features that will compel you to upgrade. Maybe next year?

Externally, everything looks the same. Whether you have an iPhone 12 or 14, the iPhone 15 has nothing new to offer apart from a few curves on the edges. Also, both iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro have 48MP cameras with 12MP telephoto. The only difference here is that Apple brought in a periscopic lens to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, i.e., 5X optical zoom.

Yes, we can agree with the fact that the A17 Pro chip is much faster and more efficient when compared to the A16 chip found on the iPhone 14 Pro models.

The iPhone 15 series sees improved battery performance compared to its predecessor, which is great news for all iPhone users looking to upgrade. On the other hand, there are no significant changes to the display, and they all come at 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch.

Sadly, the base models of the iPhone 15 still come with the 60Hz display which is basic for a flagship phone. They could have upgraded it to 120Hz or at least 90Hz. The Pro models, on the other hand, retain their 120Hz display as last year.

You Should Upgrade to iPhone 15 if:

The real question is, should YOU upgrade? Now, you can be anyone. Someone who currently owns the iPhone 12 series or 13 series. Or someone who has the 14 series. It depends entirely on your personal preference in the end.

However, let me break it down for you:

1. Older iPhone Model

If you are keen to upgrade to a newer model and currently own the iPhone 11, 12, or 13 series, this is the best time to upgrade to the iPhone 15. As mentioned, it has some significant upgrades over these aging iPhones, and you will love it.

2. Love USB-C

We all know by now that Apple has finally introduced the USB-C port on all its devices, including the new iPhone 15 series. However, this would not have happened if the EU hadn’t forced Apple’s hand for this massive step. So, if this intrigues you and is a good reason to shift to a new iPhone, order one now.

3. Camera Upgrade

There is no doubt that Apple always has something better to offer with its Camera unit. Yet again, with the iPhone 15, we can say the same. Although you may argue that there aren’t any significant changes as it remains 48MP and 12MP telephoto as compared to the iPhone 14 Pro model.

However, the new camera here has a 25% larger sensor that can capture more light, giving more detailed images with every capture. That is not all. Instead of the standard telephoto lens, the camera also has a periscope lens that provides an optical zoom of up to 5X. Hence, if you are a photographer or a content creator, you must get one for yourself, too.

4. Budget

One of the major factors to consider here before upgrading to the iPhone 15 series is your Budget. iPhone 15 starts from $799, while all color variants of iPhone 15 Plus start from $899. Similarly, the iPhone 15 Pro pricing begins at $999, and the 15 Pro Max starts at $1199.

These are only the base charges you must bear while buying the new iPhone. Furthermore, if this is your first iPhone, you will also have to get an adapter for it. You might have to consider that since the iPhone 15 series now comes with a USB-C port, all your previous iPhones’ accessories may become irrelevant, such as your wired earphones, charger, etc.

Hence, if you have the budget for a new iPhone, then only you should go for it.

5. Usage and Preference

Ultimately, it all comes down to what you need the new iPhone for. If you are a simple basic user, then you can simply upgrade to iPhone 15 or 15 Plus. Here, you can get the Dynamic Island along with USB-C.

iPhone 15 Pro Gaming

However, if you are a gamer or a content creator, you cannot miss the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max versions. These two iPhones feature the powerful A17 Pro chip that has been designed for gaming with Pro-class GPU. The chip uses hardware-accelerated ray tracing that brings an immersive gaming experience for AAA gaming titles like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil Village, which will come later this year.

Is it Worth Upgrading

Whether or not you are looking to upgrade your current iPhone or even looking to buy your first one depends entirely on your personal choice. However, if you are confused about the iPhone 15 series, it may not be the best choice to go with.

There hasn’t been any significant upgrade to this new flagship model when compared to its predecessor. Furthermore, it is better to buy the iPhone 14 series, or even older models are good to go if you aren’t a big fan of the dynamic Island. But if you are an Apple fan and the budget does not bother you much, preorder your iPhone 15 series now.
