Point-and-shoot cameras inspired Apple to add a Camera Control button on the new iPhone 16 series. A dedicated button that will instantly launch the Camera app no matter where you are; even on the lock screen. The problem? Sometimes, your kiddo or dog may launch the Camera app accidentally leading to awkward snaps and videos being captured. Other times, the Camera Control button may register a click when it’s in your pocket leading to battery drain and warm pockets!

Must Read: Did you know you can now use the Camera Control button to launch the QR Code Scanner or Magnifier feature directly instead of the Camera app? Yup. Learn how right now.

However, you can change a little-known setting so that pressing the Camera Control button once does nothing while pressing it twice will launch the Camera app. Yes, there is an option to change what happens when you press the Camera Control button once or twice when the Camera app is not open.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Camera > Camera Control.
  3. Select Double Click option here.

Now, the Camera Control button will not register a single press gesture. It will launch the Camera app only when you quickly press the Camera Control button twice.

You can also change the pressure sensitivity of the Camera Control button so that it registers a press when you soft or hard press the button. Those who want nothing to do with it can simply disable the Camera Control button altogether and pretend it doesn’t exist.
