  • The SE 4 is expected to swap the Lightning port for USB-C and add a new Action Button.
  • Rumors suggest an A18 chip, 8GB RAM, a 48MP camera, and a price around $500.
  • The iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch by April.

New leaks from Majin Bu on X are giving us our first real look at the upcoming iPhone SE 4, and it’s bringing some interesting changes. The leaks showcase a design blending elements from older SE models and the iPhone 14, including a notch display and a single rear camera, which aligns with previous rumors of the iPhone SE 4 with a new name. What other changes can we expect from Apple’s next budget iPhone? Let’s dive in.

iPhone SE 4 Design Revealed in New Leaks

These leaks give us our clearest look yet at the upcoming iPhone SE 4. The video showcases a 360° view of a dummy unit, the kind often used by case manufacturers based on leaked information from Apple’s supply chain. These units give us a good idea of what the final product will look like.

The video confirms that the SE 4 draws design cues from a few different iPhone generations. The back, with its single camera lens and LED flash in the top-left corner, resembles previous SE models. However, the sides and front, including the notch at the top of the display, appear borrowed from the iPhone 14.

This means no Dynamic Island for this model, further differentiating it from Apple’s higher-end iPhones. The video also provides a clear view of the upcoming iPhone’s overall shape and size, revealing that the new SE 4 is moving away from the smaller form factor of its predecessors. A size comparison with the iPhone 16 shows them to be nearly identical.

The Upcoming SE Will Get Two Key Upgrades

Beyond the design, the iPhone SE 4 is aligning itself more closely with Apple’s current iPhone lineup. Two main changes stand out:

  • Long-awaited move to USB-C: Apple is finally ditching the Lightning port, a staple on iPhones for years, and shifting to the more universal USB-C standard. This means the SE 4 will use the same charging port as most other modern devices, including MacBooks, iPads, and Android phones. This change will simplify charging and data transfer, and also bring the SE 4 in line with the latest EU regulations.
  • Inclusion of the Action Button: Apple will replace the traditional mute switch with the Action Button. First introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro models, the Action Button is a customizable button that can be programmed to perform various functions, such as launching the camera, turning on the flashlight, activating a shortcut, and more.

This is surprising, as even Apple’s high-end iPhone 15 models lack an Action Button. Perhaps this signals an effort to add the Action Button to all of Apple’s upcoming iPhones.

These feature upgrades signal that Apple is taking the SE lineup more seriously, closing the gap between its budget-friendly option and its flagship iPhones.

iPhone SE 4 Specifications (Expected)

The iPhone SE 4 is expected to feature the A18 chip, a significant performance jump compared to previous SE models. The previous SE model used the A15 Bionic chip from the iPhone 13, making the A18 a three-generation leap forward.

This chip will deliver a noticeable boost in speed and efficiency, making everything from web browsing to multitasking more responsive. The SE 4 will also be capable of handling more demanding tasks, including running graphics-intensive AAA games like Assassin’s Creed.

Alongside the A18 chip, the SE 4 is rumored to include 8GB of RAM. This is crucial, as 8GB is the minimum memory requirement for Apple’s latest AI features, known as Apple Intelligence. This suggests that the SE 4, a more affordable iPhone, will be able to take advantage of these advanced AI-powered capabilities.

This is significant because users won’t have to pay a premium to experience the latest in Apple’s AI technology. However, Apple still lags behind other smartphone companies in implementing AI features. For example, Samsung has introduced new AI features, including multimodal task-making and integration of Gemini with other apps. Meanwhile, many of Apple’s announced AI features are either yet to be released or haven’t lived up to expectations.

This new iPhone is also rumored to feature a 48MP main camera, bringing significant improvements to image quality.

Expected Price

Currently, iPhone SE 4 is rumored to be priced around $500, a slight increase compared to previous SE models. But it’s important to consider what you’re getting for the extra cost. With features like USB-C, the Action Button, a powerful A18 chip, and support for Apple Intelligence, the SE 4 offers a lot more than its predecessors.

It’s worth noting that the base iPhone 16 with the same A18 chip starts at $799. So, if a top-of-the-line camera system isn’t your primary concern, the SE 4 offers similar performance at a lower price. The base iPhone 16 does offer additional benefits like a dual-lens camera system and a more premium design.

Release Date

Rumors point to a release for the new SE 4 sometime around April, which aligns with Apple’s typical release window for previous SE models. With a design similar to that of the iPhone XR, the SE 4 has the potential to be another big hit for Apple. Both the XR and the SE series have proven to be successful formulas for the company.

If the rumors are true, this could be a significant step forward for the SE lineup, bringing many of the features we’ve come to expect from higher-end iPhones to a more accessible price point. It’ll be interesting to see how it stacks up against the competition when it finally launches. Share your views on X!
