iPhone 16 base models come with 60Hz refresh rate which is a criminal offense at this point. Fortunately, the Pro models come with 120Hz display. Interestingly, IceUniverse, a popular smartphone leaker, shared a video where supposedly an iPhone 16 Pro model is running on the latest version of iOS 18 and the refresh rate is seen mostly around 80Hz. It hits 120Hz only a few times for a split second. Interestingly, he points out in the video that the iPhone 16 Pro model stays at 120Hz only when screen recording is active.
He shared a video on X (formerly Twitter). In the clip, you can see that when scrolling through a list, the iPhone (likely the latest iPhone 16 Pro) mostly sticks to 80Hz, with 120Hz appearing momentarily.
While we couldn’t find any 3rd-party app that can help us test the refresh rate on our iPhone 16 Pro Max model like the user (Weibo 孙斌1990) used on his iPhone, it’s something we’ll keep an eye on. This is a little weird and we aren’t sure how or what methods were used to test the refresh rate yet.
Meanwhile, we have been testing the iPhone’s 18 and A18 Pro chipsets against heavyweights like Snapdragon 8 gen 4 and Dimensity 9400. We also compared the A18 with the A18 Pro and last year’s A17 Pro.
