macOS Sequoia 15.1 will be here soon and with it comes a bunch of new features. One of them is the all new Type to Siri window which gets an update. You can move the window around and launch Type to Siri with a handy keyboard shortcut. Let’s begin.
How to Enable Type to Siri Option
You must enable Siri under Apple Intellignece before enabling Type to Siri feature. Only then it will appear in the menu bar and work correctly.
- Open System Settings from the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the menu bar.
- Go to Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Enable Siri.
- Now, go to previous scree, and open Accessibility > Siri and enable Type to Siri option.
What’s New in Type to Siri on Mac
So the Type to Siri feature isn’t exactly new. It has been there on both iPhone and Macs for some time now. However, it has received an ‘AI’ makeover so to speak.
Once you have enabled Type to Siri, you will see the Siri icon in the upper right corner of the menu bar at the top. Click on it to open a window that will resemble a search bar. You can now type directly into it.
The Type to Siri window can now be dragged and placed anywhere on the screen. The Type to Siri bar will stay there even if you switch windows or apps. It will disappear if it is not engaged with for a few moments.
Pro Tip: Have you used Rectangle app on the Mac? We used the improved window tiling feature in macOS Sequoia and found some new and improved features and how it compares to the OG.
Set/Change Type to Siri Keyboard Shortcut
You can change the keyboard shortcut that launches Type to Siri feature. However, Apple has shaked things with macOS 15.1 Sequoia. Earlier, there was an option to double-press the CMD button to open Type to Siri but is no longer available. We have some new options:
- Open System Settings.
- Go to Apple Intelligence& Siri.
- You can choose one of the available shortcuts or set a two-key custom keyboard shortcut here.
Siri Handles NLP and Context Better
Apple Intelligence improves Siri making it better at handling NLP or natural language processing. That means it can better understand how we humans talk and communicate. For example, when communicating with Siri, you can take a pause, maybe say one thing and then immediately say another or correct yourself. Siri will still understand the context, what you meant, and answer accordingly.
And that’s it, folks.
