With the ever increasing advancements in technology, the way we capture the world around us has changed quite a lot. The big chunky set of devices we used to drag along to capture videos at pixelated low resolutions have now become small pocketable devices to capture anything in their fully crisp and detailed glory. Right now in 2018, 4k has become a standard of high video quality with companies pushing 4k video capturing capability to their smartphones, drones, action cameras and to even streaming videos on the internet.
But this does come at a cost; the cost of size. 4k videos take up a lot of space and if you are someone shooting 4k on your iPhone or Android phone, expect your phone storage to fill up really fast. Due to their bulky size, 4k video files take up a lot of space on your hard disks and it is even more painful and time consuming to share these files on social media or to transfer them across devices. And not to mention the incompatibility with video editors due to format conflicts.
Yes, there have been solutions to these problems by compressing the whole video to reduce its size, or converting video formats to avoid conflicts or editing the videos to trim them down or even by adjusting certain video parameters. But still dealing with 4k videos for the average person is still more of a inconvenience as it is very much time consuming to impress videos and needless to say the compromised video quality after compression and even editing 4k files requires significant processing power.
Amidst all this hassle, enter this little piece of software – MacX Video Converter Pro, which makes the overall handling of 4k videos a breeze. It can do everything from compressing and converting your 4k video files to editing and adjusting it with fine controls. It also comes with video downloading and screen recording utilities.
Compressing 4k Videos
The app is really easy to get started with and the UI being simple and intuitive, can be used by beginners and professionals alike.
Opening the app, you should be greeted by a starting page where you can drag and drop your clips or select them from your computer’s file system.
Once you have located the file or files you want to compress, click on Open.
MacX provides a plethora of video profiles and formats for your 4k file, each of which can be individually tweaked according to the user’s need. Select the video profile and quality which is best suited to your workflow and hit on the big round “RUN” button. Wait a few seconds or minutes depending on the load and you’re done!
MacX can convert videos smoothly to any format and it does this, really really fast. It also adopts the High-Quality Engine, Deinterlacing tech and Auto Copy Mode to ensure the original input video quality is maintained and no loss is present in the output. Some of its compressing features can be highlighted as:
– Smoothly convert 4K videos to HD.
– Convert video to H.265/HEVC to reduce up to 50% file size.
– Lossless video quality after compression.
– Fastest video compression/processing speed.
The Tech behind MacX
Even if you use MacX just once, you are bound to notice how fast it is and the secret to it being this blazing fast is a technology known as Hardware Acceleration. Simply put, what hardware acceleration does is, it takes the whole load from the CPU and effectively distributes it between your CPU and GPU for optimum results. There are always a bunch of processes running in the CPU and it performs even the graphic intensive tasks while the GPU sits idle. Hardware acceleration utilises the GPU’s massive parallel processing power by making the GPU do most of the graphic intensive part of the load. This essentially translates to less time taken, less energy consumed and overall a much more efficient solution. But MacX takes this a step further with their Level-3 Hardware Acceleration where the GPU takes care of the whole transcoding process and is the only app that does so.
Below is a real instance of MacX’s video processing speeds:
Download 4k videos from the internet
This is a handy little feature which MacX comes with. It can download 4k videos(or less) from youtube and many other popular sites on the internet; all you need for that matter is the url of the video you want to download. You can also select the format from a wide variety of options and you’ll be downloading 4k videos with just a click.
Another bonus feature is that it allows you to record the screen on your Mac. Although it is a little bit choppy at 30 frames per second, it does get the job done.
You can even record videos from your webcam if you have one.
– Compress large-sized 4K videos to 1080P, 720P, H.265/HEVC to save storage space
– Convert 4K, HD videos recorded by iPhone, Camera, GoPro to formats that are compatible with all video editors and players.
– Convert 4K HD videos to make them compatible with iPhone, iPad, Android, tablet, etc.
– Adjustment of video parameters like codec, frame rate and bit rate
– Fastest video processing speed supported by unique level-3 hardware acceleration tech (Hardware Encoding, Hardware Decoding & Hardware processing).
– Deinterlacing tech and High Quality Engine ensures no loss in the output video quality

Overall, MacX Video Converter Pro is an efficient piece of software that manages to compress or convert your bulky 4k video data files at the fastest processing speed and at a lossless video quality. While it does offer some very basic video editing functions like cropping and trimming, it would have been nice to see a little more editing tools like color correction, etc. But nevertheless we highly recommend this app to anyone who is looking for a fast video compressing or converting app which also doubles as a YouTube downloader. There is also a free version (with a few limitations) which you can download and check out before fully investing in the app.
