By default, Echo Show uses Amazon’s native video call service that allows you to call between Echo devices and smartphones running the Alexa app. But what if most of your contacts don’t have an Echo device or the Alexa app? Thankfully, Amazon also lets you make Skype calls from your Echo Show devices. Let’s see how.

Make Skype Calls On Echo Show

Skype functionality is built into all Echo Show devices, you just need to login and connect your Skype account in your Alexa app on your phone, to use the feature.

Start by opening the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone. Tap the More button on the bottom right corner of the screen. Scroll down the page and open the Settings page.

open alexa settings

Under Alexa Preferences pane, find and tap Communication. Here you’d find the Skype button, simply tap the + button to begin the setup.

add skype

You would need to enter your Skype credentials on the screen that appears. After logging in, grant all the permissions by tapping the “Yes” button on the bottom of the page. This would sync your contacts with the Alexa app. It would make your calling process extremely seamless.

allow skype data access to Alexa

That’s it. You can now simply ask Alexa to call someone on Skype and if they’re in your contact list, Alexa would initiate the call. You can even ask Alexa to answer and end calls with the voice commands.

"Alexa, Call Mom on Skype"

To answer a Skype call, say:

“Alexa, pick up”

If you don’t want to share the video just tap on the camera icon on the screen to disable it. Or use the command. Unfortunately, there is no hands-free command to disable Mic with a voice command. You can only do by pressing the mute
button on the Echo Show.

"Alexa, turn off the camera"

Final Words

This was a quick way to set up Skype on your Echo Show device. Even though Echo Show is meant to be completely hands-free, you still have to press the button manually to mute your Skype calls. Weirdly, you can ask Alexa to turn off the camera with just the voice command. What do you think of this feature? Let me know in the comments and come hang out with me on Twitter.
