Marvel Rivals fans might want to get excited. The upcoming Season 2.5 lore update looks like it’s setting up something big for Season 3. According to new story leaks, we might finally see Phoenix (Jean Grey) join the game soon. If the hints are right, one of Marvel’s most powerful mutants could be heading our way.

Marvel Rivals Phoenix

What We Learn from the Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 Lore

Season 2.5 comes out on May 30th, 2025. Sure, we know we’re getting Ultron, but that’s not the big news here. The more exciting news now is in the lore that comes with it. A Marvel Rivals reliable leaker, Miller Ross, shared the full story details on X, and they’re actually pretty interesting. Here is the complete lore they were posting:

During the fight on Arakko, Hawkeye and Iron Fist are infected with the Ultron Virus. Able to stave off the mind control thanks to the Winter Soldier’s mental exercises, our heroes join Magneto and turn the tables to retrieve Cerebro. After using Krakoa’s chronal energy to defeat X-Tron, Doom 2099 double-crosses his allies and turns his newfound powers against them. But Victor made a critical error leaving Tony’s resurrected Ultron alive, and the “reformed” robot lands a killing blow against the man who once tried to erase him from existence. Sweet, sweet revenge, or so it seems.

This victory quickly sours when the fading vestige of Doom is revealed to be a robot himself. Our heroes live to see another day, but the threat of Doom has now grown stronger than ever. Before our heroes can celebrate their victory, Adam Warlock is alerted to the reemergence of the demiurge Knull. If the group is to stand a chance against one of the primal forces of the universe, they’ll need to recruit one of their own…

So, in short, here’s what happens: Doom 2099 tricks everyone and tries to take over. But Ultron comes back and defeats him. Just when you think the good guys won, Adam Warlock gets a scary warning. He senses that Knull is coming back. If you don’t know Knull, he’s the bad guy who created all the symbiotes like Venom. He’s called “one of the primal forces of the universe” – basically, he’s really, really powerful.

Why the Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 Leaks Point to Phoenix

Here is where it gets good. Adam Warlock says the heroes need to find their own “primal force” to fight Knull. When Marvel fans hear “primal force,” most people think of only one character: Jean Grey and her Phoenix power. Phoenix is one of the strongest forces in all of Marvel. She can destroy planets and bring people back to life. If the heroes need someone to match Knull’s power, Phoenix makes perfect sense.

This isn’t the first time Jean Grey’s name has come up this season. Earlier, her name was hidden on a Marvel Rivals event page. Plus, when the game first launched, there were leaks showing Jean Grey was being tested along with other characters. The timing also works out. Marvel Rivals adds new heroes every season. Emma Frost was the big addition this season, and she’s an X-Men character just like Jean Grey. It would make sense for another X-Men member to follow.

What Phoenix Could Bring to Marvel Rivals

If Jean Grey joins up, she’d probably be a Duelist or Strategist. With Phoenix powers, she could:

  • Deal massive damage and blast multiple enemies at once.
  • Heal up her team with life force energy.
  • Maybe come back from the dead after being defeated.
  • Put up powerful shields or barriers.

She’d fit right in with all the mutants like Wolverine, Storm, and Magneto who are already in the game.

When Are We Getting Phoenix in Marvel Rivals?

If this leak is real, Phoenix would drop in Season 3. That’s probably July or August 2025, depending on how long Season 2.5 runs. The game developers love doing this. They hint at new characters in the story before they actually add them. They’ve done it before with other heroes. Plus, having Knull as the next big bad guy is the perfect excuse to bring in one of Marvel’s strongest heroes.

Look, we don’t know for sure yet. But all these hints are adding up. Keep watching when Season 2.5 drops on May 30th, 2025, because we might get even more clues about what’s coming.
