Microsoft is slowly, steadily, and silently adding new features to its Office suite of apps. I am noticing a deeper integration of Copilot by the day. Last month, Microsoft added a way to generate forms using Copilot. Building on this, Microsoft recently announced a new option to auto-generate not only answers to the questions but also logical and detailed explanations behind those answers.
Copilot is getting new generative AI powers. This is useful for those who work in the education sector for example. First, use prompts to generate a quiz in Copilot that meets your requirements. While doing so, select the Including answer explanations option.
That will tell Copilot to generate a quiz with a detailed explanation behind each answer. This will help the students (or whoever your audience is) to understand the reasoning and logic behind the answer thereby improving comprehension.
Microsoft has shared an example of a math quiz for grade 9 students to demonstrate how this new generative AI function of Copilot works inside Forms. You will notice in the screenshots above how Copilot generates a step-by-step answer making it easier for students to comprehend how to arrive at and calculate the answer.
Copilot will create a draft of the quiz that you can save for later perusal. The good thing is that you can further make manual edits to the quiz, including the questions, answers, and explanations to add more context and clarity and avoid AI hallucination.
Once you have marked the correct answer, Copilot will automatically generate an in-depth explanation of the chosen answer to help understand the logic. While this feature is innovative, the AI-generated responses may be limited and sometimes, incorrect. Manual review and adjustments might be needed to ensure accuracy.
As expected, the respondents will immediately see answers to the questions they took in the quiz after submitting the form. And thanks to Copilot, they can also better understand the reasoning behind the answer.
