Xiaomi has been working on the 15 Ultra for some time now and leaks have been pouring in consistently over the past few weeks. There was a lot of chatter about the Leica camera setup with a retro design that will remind those old enough of the good old handheld camera days. However, all of that comes at a price. Here’s your first look at the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

Specifications and Design

The retro dual-tone design of the Xiaomi Ultra 2 looks clean yet classy. It might remind some of last year’s Xiaomi 14 Ultra but that’s okay. Because it is what Xiaomi packed under the hood that matters more.

You get a stunning 6.73-inch WQHD+ (1440×3200 pixels) quad-curved LTPO AMOLED display that carries a refresh rate of 120Hz. The peak brightness is claimed at 3200 nits but we all know it is true only for certain pixels on the display. This year’s Ultra will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor which should keep things running smooth and snappy.

To keep the phone and the gamers who will be using it to play games chill, Xiaomi has fitted the smartphone with dual-channel IceLoop system. It’s a fancy name for their new cooling system. We will see just how good it is when we bring it back home to run our gaming tests. Xiaomi Ultra 2 will come preinstalled with HyperOS 2 based on Android 15. The good part is that you get 4 years of software updates.

But all of that is not exciting really. What caught our eyes at the event was their crazy powerful camera setup on the 15 Ultra. You get a Leica-tuned quad rear camera setup with a 50MP main camera (Sony LYT 900), a 50MP ultra-wide camera (115-degree FOV), a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 200MP Samsung HP9 periscope telephoto camera with 4.3x optical zoom (x8.6 100mm lens). The front camera is a 32MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture. Last year’s telephoto lens offered a 5x optical zoom so consider this a downgrade but we will see how it performs in real-life scenarios.

All of that is housed in a circular camera module that looks out of place due to the dual-tone back panel. That can be easily solved with a case though.

Xiaomi also talked about AISP 2.0 which should help with night-time photography. Finally, you get a 5,410mAh battery with up to 90W wired and 80W wireless charging. No Qi2 yet.

Xiaomi will release the phone in 3 colors but it is the price that will catch your eyes. 15 Ultra will cost €1,499 (around $1,600) for the 16+512GB variant. To justify the eye-watering price, Xiaomi will offer out-of-warranty repair, free screen replacement, and international warranty.
