Windows 11 X AMD Ryzen

There’s some good news for Ryzen CPU owners. If you feel that your gaming performance could use a boost, AMD and Microsoft have covered you with a fresh update. While you cannot download RAM or GPU (hardware limitations), you can always download a software update via OTA.

Earlier this month, some reviewers were less than thrilled with the performance of AMD’s new Ryzen 9000 CPUs. To tackle this, AMD and Microsoft have been working on an optimization update for Windows 11 that promises to enhance performance for Ryzen CPUs. Initially, these improvements were set to come with the upcoming Windows 11 24H2 update, but the good news is they’re already available for the current Windows 11 version (23H2). You don’t have to go through the hassle of joining the Windows Insider Program or downloading the ISO files for 24H2.

If you’re wondering how much of a performance boost to expect, early tests from Hardware Unboxed provide some answers. Their test shows Ryzen 7700X and Ryzen 9700X see an improvement of about 10% and 11% respectively, in multiple games running at 1080p resolution.

How to Get the Update

To grab these performance enhancements, go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates and then look for an update labeled KB5041587. This update will improve the performance of Zen 3 (Ryzen 5000), Zen 4 (Ryzen 7000, 8000), and Zen 5 (Ryzen 9000) architecture, so you don’t need to wait for the new 24H2 update or install any beta versions.
