Instagram has released a new feature. You can now edit photos you receive or send on Instagram right inside DMs. You can then share these photos or post them as Stories and Posts. Here’s everything you can do with photos in Instagram DMs and how to do it.
Edit Photos in Instagram DMs
The feature is enabled by default so there is nothing you need to do. Simply open Instagram DM and locate a photo you would like to edit, doodle on, or add stickers too. It can be an image you sent or even received in the DMs.
Now tap on the plus icon inside a circle with dots to open the editing screen. You will see a list of tools. Let’s go through all of them one by one in order from left to right.

You will see a list of tools appear at the top. Here is what they do in order from left to right:
- right arrow – discard or keep editing pop-up appears.
- color circle insider a color – change the background color or create one.
- two arrows – zoom button for videos
- Aa icon – reveals a new menu where you can add text, change font size, color, and style, add effects like neon, change indentation, @mention, add location, and more.
- Face emoji – add stickers, links, countdown, quizzes, music, cutouts, GIFs, location, and so much more.
- music icon – search for and add music.
- three-dot icon – select Draw option to begin doodling or drawing, save image, use Label AI, and turn off commenting.
You can also use pinch gestures to increase and decrease the image size, rearrange elements you have added to the image, and add/remove objects. When you pinch in or out, you will notice blue lines appearing behind the image. That is to help you with alignment.
Finally, you can share the image on WhatsApp or any other messaging app of your choice. You can also post it as a story directly.
