Just when we thought Apple’s A18 Pro, released with the iPhone 16 Pro, was the most efficient chip available, rumors suggest it may soon be outdone. Qualcomm is set to unveil its next-generation flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite (aka Snapdragon 8 Gen 4), at the upcoming Snapdragon Summit on October 21st. The OnePlus 13 will reportedly be the first smartphone to feature this new chip.

OnePlus 13 to Feature a More Efficient ‘Custom’ Snapdragon 8 Elite

A OnePlus employee, Cai Zuxuan, teased on Weibo that the phone will feature a customized version of the Snapdragon processor. More importantly, it is reported to surpass the A18 Pro in energy efficiency. The post also mentions that the “public version” of the chip would be less efficient than the “customized” one.

He stated: “Finally, we have finished running all the energy efficiency data internally. The customized one is indeed better than the public version. It directly beats the A18 Pro and returns to the top of the weapon list! Brothers, witness history!”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen different variants of the same Snapdragon chip. For example, last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was customized for Samsung with “for Galaxy” branding and featured better performance with a higher clock speed.

Recently, a leaked spec sheet suggested the Snapdragon 8 Elite will have two variants: SM8750 and SM8750P. The “P” variant is likely the performance version, possibly with a higher clock speed. However, the OnePlus 13’s variant might be unique, customized specifically for OnePlus.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Specifications (Leaked)

The Snapdragon 8 Elite will feature new Oryon CPU cores, departing from the Kryo architecture. It will include a total of 8 Oryon cores, consisting of 2 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores. Rumors suggest it will be built on TSMC’s 3nm process and clocked at 4.0 GHz.

It will likely include the Adreno 830 GPU, expected to operate at 1250 MHz, delivering about 40% better performance than the Adreno 750. The chip will support four-channel LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.0 storage, and various enhancements for on-device and generative AI.

OnePlus 13 Specifications (Leaked)

Leaks suggest that the OnePlus 13 will feature a 6.8-inch BOE X2 LTPO AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 6,000 nits and 1,600 nits in high-brightness mode. It will include an anti-reflective coating and gently curved edges, and it has obtained the world’s first DisplayMate A++ certification, reportedly breaking 21 display records.

The phone is also expected to come with a 50-megapixel triple camera system, including a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 primary camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom capabilities.

It will feature a large 6,000 mAh battery with 100W fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging support. There may also be a new variant with up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Additionally, it could have a super ceramic glass back panel, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner integrated into the display, and features such as super eye protection.

Cai Zuxuan claimed that the inclusion of the advanced screen and new chip will lead to a price increase, with an expected launch price of CNY 5,299 for the 16GB RAM + 512GB storage variant. While the exact launch date has yet to be announced, the OnePlus 13 is expected to be unveiled before the end of October.
