OnePlus 13: Top 7 Features of the New Flagship Phone

After multiple leaks and rumors, OnePlus has finally unveiled its OnePlus 13 smartphone in China. It is one of the first smartphones to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. With a fresh design, a revamped 50-megapixel triple-camera setup, and a massive 6,000mAh battery, here are the top changes and standout features of the OnePlus 13.

1. Slimmer and Lighter ‘Flat’ Design

OnePlus has finally moved on from the curved display, following in the footsteps of Apple, Samsung, and many other manufacturers. The OnePlus 13 now features a flat glass sandwich design with rounded edges, resembling the rumored look of the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra. Flat displays are going to be one of the trends you will notice in most flagship phones.

On the back, the design doesn’t stray far from previous OnePlus flagships. It retains the familiar circular camera module with Hasselblad and OnePlus branding. OnePlus 13 is available in three colors: white with a matte glass back, blue with a vegan leather back, and black with a wooden textured glass back.

With slimmer bezels, the OnePlus 13 is slightly smaller and lighter than its predecessor. It measures 162.90 x 76.50 x 8.90mm, compared to the OnePlus 12’s 163.0 x 74.0 x 8.55mm, and weighs 210 grams (or 213 grams for the glass model), compared to the OnePlus 12’s 205 grams.

2. New BOE X2 Display

OnePlus 13 has a 6.82-inch BOE X2 LTPO display with a 2K+ resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels. The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision HDR, a typical brightness of 800 nits, and a peak brightness of 4500 nits. As noted, it’s a flat display.

Furthermore, the screen features an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner underneath, instead of an optical one, similar to Samsung’s flagship models. This allows it to detect and unlock with your fingerprint even if your fingertips are oily or dirty. In contrast, the OnePlus 12’s optical scanner illuminated the area to capture and verify a fingerprint image.

3. Snapdragon 8 Elite Processor

As mentioned, the OnePlus 13 is among the first phones to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, although the Xiaomi 15 series holds the crown for the first official release.

This octa-core processor is built on TSMC’s 3nm process and utilizes Oryon cores instead of the older Kryo cores, along with the Adreno 830 GPU. It’s significantly more powerful than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The base model of the OnePlus 13 pairs the Snapdragon 8 Elite with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, while the top-tier configuration offers up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

4. Latest Android 15

The OnePlus 13 runs the latest Android 15 out of the box. In China, the phone uses ColorOS 15, while the rest of the world will get OxygenOS 15. This new UI version brings several features and changes, including Parallel Processing, which allows seamless switching between multiple apps without lag.

There’s also a host of new AI features, including AI Blur, AI Reply, AI Reflection Eraser, and more. Plus, new lock screen customization options, updated animations, and Intelligent Search are among the added enhancements.

OnePlus 13 comes with 4 years of software updates and 6 years of security patches.

5. 50MP Triple Camera Setup

Like many Chinese smartphone manufacturers, OnePlus has opted for a triple 50-megapixel rear camera setup on the OnePlus 13. The primary camera features a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 sensor with a 1/1.4″ size, an f/1.6 aperture, and OIS, and it supports 8K video recording.

The main camera is accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a 114-degree field of view, and a 50-megapixel periscope camera offering 3x optical zoom. The rear cameras carry the Hasselblad branding.

For selfies, the OnePlus 13 includes a 32-megapixel front-facing camera.

6. Massive 6,000mAH Battery

Last year, most flagship phones featured around a 5,000mAh battery, but this year, many manufacturers, including OnePlus, are raising the standard to 6,000mAh. The OnePlus 13 now includes a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery—an upgrade from the 5,400mAh lithium-ion cell on the OnePlus 12—all while being more compact and lightweight.

It also supports 100W fast charging, 50W wireless charging with magnetic attachment, and 10W reverse wireless charging. A charging adapter is included in the box, and the OnePlus 13’s battery is said to be charged to 100% in just 36 minutes.

7. Dual IP68 + IP69 Rating

The OnePlus 13 offers a significantly higher IP rating than the OnePlus 12. While the OnePlus 12 was rated IP55, the OnePlus 13 is certified for both IP68 and IP69.

The IP69 rating maintains the same dust resistance level (6), but the “9” for water resistance now means that, in addition to withstanding submersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, the phone can also handle high-pressure water jets and some forms of steam cleaning.

However, note that water damage is not covered under warranty.

OnePlus 13 Pricing and Availability

In China, the OnePlus 13 starts at CNY 4,499 (approximately ₹53,100) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. The 12GB/512GB model is priced at CNY 4,899 (around ₹57,900), while the 16GB/512GB version costs CNY 5,299 (about ₹62,600). The top-end model, featuring 24GB RAM and 1TB storage, comes in at CNY 5,999 (roughly ₹70,900).

Although the phone has currently launched in China, it is expected to be unveiled globally by the end of this year, with an India release anticipated in early 2025, likely in January.
