OnePlus 13 has already launched in China, and now it’s time for its younger sibling – the OnePlus 13R. Notably, the phone will first launch as OnePlus Ace 5 in China in December and later arrive as OnePlus 13R globally. It will be a toned-down flagship killer on a budget. Based on the leaks and rumors so far, here’s all we know about the OnePlus 13R, including features and specifications.
OnePlus 13R Specifications (Expected)
OnePlus began its “R” series in 2021 with the OnePlus 9R, known primarily for its performance-focused approach, especially for mobile gaming. Since then, the company has introduced the OnePlus 10R, 11R, and 12R. All were trimmed-down variants of their non-R counterparts (except for the OnePlus 10R, which was a rebranded Realme phone).
Now, OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro smartphones in China this December. Rumors suggest that the Ace 5 Pro will be exclusive to the Chinese market, while the Ace 5 will be rebranded as the OnePlus 13R for global markets. Most leaks are currently for the OnePlus Ace 5, but given it will arrive as OnePlus 13R, I am going to refer to it as the latter itself.
An alleged teaser image of the OnePlus 13R (or Ace 5) suggests the phone will have flat edges and a ceramic back. The design appears similar to the OnePlus 13, with a large, triple-camera, circular platform on the rear and an alert slider on the left side. A tipster mentioned the phone would feature crystal shield glass, a metal middle frame, and a ceramic body.
According to a leaked Geekbench listing, the OnePlus 13R will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. OnePlus has reserved the previous generation’s flagship Qualcomm processor for this model, following the established pattern for the R series, while the OnePlus 13 retains the current-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite.
You can expect two RAM and storage variants: 8GB + 128GB and 16GB + 256GB. The storage will likely be UFS 3.1. The phone will run ColorOS 15 in China and OxygenOS 15 globally, based on the latest Android 15. The new OxygenOS has several interesting AI features you may want to explore.
The OnePlus 13R is expected to feature a 6.78-inch 1.5K BOE X2 LTPO display. It will have a 120Hz refresh rate and an optical fingerprint scanner.
While the flagship OnePlus 13 adopts a triple 50-megapixel camera setup, the OnePlus 13R is expected to have a triple-lens setup as well, but only the primary camera may retain the 50-megapixel resolution. It will also lack the Hasselblad branding found on the flagship version.
Powering all of this will be a 6,300mAh silicon-carbon battery (one of the new trends we’re seeing in flagships) alongside 100W SuperVOOC charging. While the battery size is larger than the OnePlus 13’s, this phone may omit wireless charging, like its predecessor (which wouldn’t be a bad thing).
The OnePlus Ace 5 will launch in China in December 2024. This release will give us a good idea of the OnePlus 13R’s specifications when it arrives in global markets early next year, as the two phones are expected to be nearly identical, aside from the UI.
