Oppo has released its Reno12 series – the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro – in Chinese and European markets. The series is set to make its debut in India on July 12, as confirmed by the brand. This smartphone series arrives with a unique feature that no other phone currently offers – BeaconLink technology.
A decade ago when keypad phones were a thing, we had Push-to-Talk over Cellular feature that allowed walky-talky like communication between two phones. However that still required a cellular connection. However, Oppo managed to find a way around that. The new BeaconLink technology turns the Reno12 phones into walkie-talkies, enabling one-to-one voice calls between devices without cellular coverage at a distance of up to 200 meters. So, you can easily make these calls with other Reno12 series owners from different rooms or even across a field without requiring a cellular network or any cellular subscriptions.
Oppo uses its proprietary Bluetooth protocols to power BeaconLink. This can be a life-saver in areas with spotty or no cellular coverage, such as remote outdoor locations or within large buildings where cellular signals may be weak.
Apart from BeaconLink, the Oppo Reno12 series also features a host of unique AI features, including AI Eraser, AI Clear Face, AI Best Face, AI Smart Image Matting 2.0, AI Studio, AI Summary, AI LinkBoost, and AI Toolbox.
Oppo Reno12 and 12 Pro 5G Specifications
The Oppo Reno12 and 12 Pro 5G feature a 6.7-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the devices is the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy (a modified version of Dimensity 7300 seen on the CMF Phone 1), coupled with 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
There’s a 5,000mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging. The Reno12 gets a 50MP rear camera with an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro unit. The front camera is 32MP with an f/2.0 aperture and autofocus. The Oppo Reno12 Pro, on the other hand, gets a 50MP telephoto lens and a 50MP front camera with same f/2.0 aperture and autofocus.
Oppo Reno12 series made a debut in China in May 2024 and subsequently released in select global markets in June 2024.
