PDF is a widely used format for applications and other important documents but editing PDFs is not easy. You can’t simply edit a PDF because most of the time you’re not supposed to.  However, that’s not the case every time, there are several apps to edit and annotate PDF documents directly on your Android device. Here are some of the best PDF editor apps for Android you can try right now for free.

1. Adobe Fill and Sign

More often than not, people confuse annotation with editing. You don’t always need a PDF editor, sometimes a PDF annotation app just works fine. Adobe Fill and Sign is an annotation app created for that specific purpose. Using this app, you can scan, fill, and sign the documents with just a few taps. The best part is, since the app supports scanning documents, you can just scan a physical document with your mobile phone or tablet camera and proceed to fill or sign it. There is no need to manually download the PDF document from a website.

While filling up the form, you can change the font size by tapping on the appropriate icons. Moreover, there is also a magnifying glass that lets you properly set the cursor where you want to fill the field. This feature is particularly useful for choice questions that contain checkboxes or yes or no options.

The other thing I really like about this app is you can create a profile and fill in the information like your name, email address, home or office address, etc. When filling up a form, just tap on the target profile field and it will appear on the document. You can drag and drop it into the necessary field. This feature eliminates the need to manually enter information each and every time.

If you are looking to just fill and sign documents then Adobe Fill and Sign is for you.

Price: Adobe Fill and Sign is free, has no ads or in-app purchases.

Just like Adobe app, you can scan a physical document and start editing it. Of course, you can import documents from the local storage or sync them via cloud services like Dropbox and Google Drive. When using Dropbox, Xodo PDF Editor will reduce the data usage by just uploading the changes rather than the complete document.

As good as it is, one thing I don’t like about PDFelement is that you need to have an account with it in order to edit or annotate PDF documents. Other than that, the app is pretty good at what it does.

This next app is not a native Android app. Instead, PDFescape is a free online PDF reader, annotator, editor, and form designer. Using the app is intuitive and you can use it with any mobile browser even though it was primarily developed for computers. The free version supports PDFs up to 10MB and 100 pages which would be enough for general users. You can add text, images, links, and shapes seamlessly and it has all the interesting annotation features like sticky notes, text insertions, highlight, strikeout, etc.

Price: PDFescape is a free tool with a few limitations like a 10MB file limit, a 100-page limit, and a 10 file limit. You can get the premium subscription which would get you increased benefits like 40MB file limit, 1000-page limit, and 100 file storage at just $2/month.

7. Office App

Microsoft, recently, launched the all-in-one Microsoft Office app. Although, it’s still in Beta but provides a lot of features. You can create and edit Microsoft Docs, Excel, OneNote, and Sticky Notes all within one app. In the case of PDFs, it has a few options. Similar to Adobe Fill and Sign, it lets you sign any PDF. Additionally, you can scan or convert pictures and documents to PDFs.

Now, what makes it stand apart from the Adobe Fill and Sign app is the OneDrive support. For instance, I can create a PDF on my Windows 10 device and save it on OneDrive. Next, access it within the Office app on mobile, sign it, and save it on OneDrive. The OneDrive sync makes it a lot easy and efficient to share PDFs too and fro from my laptop to mobile.
