Why Did Peacemaker Kill Rick Flag Jr. in The Suicide Squad?
Peacemaker killed Colonel Rick Flag Junior in The Suicide Squad on the orders of Amanda Waller. Rick Flag Jr.’s death sets up a major conflict in Peacemaker Season 2. The aftermath of The Suicide Squad revealed the darker side of Waller and the U.S. government’s involvement in Corto Maltese.
As the movie unfolds, we learn that Waller has sent Task Force X to destroy what is known as Project Starfish. Rick Flag later learns that the American government was actually pulling the strings of Project Starfish and conducting experiments on the people of Corto Maltese. Learning this, Flag gets furious and loads all the data into a hard drive, ready to expose the American government.
However, he is then stopped by Peacemaker. At this point, we learn that Waller has charged Peacemaker with making sure those records don’t leave the building. “They killed children,” Flag shouts, to which Peacemaker states that he can’t let those documents leave the building. This is Peacemaker adhering to his brutal moral code: he fights for peace at any cost, “no matter how many men, women, and children I have to kill.”
A fight ensues between the two as Peacemaker ends up stabbing Flag in the chest. We see the inside of Flag’s heart slowly coming to a stop as Flag then utters the now iconic lines, “Peacemaker… what a joke!” He then falls to the ground and dies.

Who is Rick Flag Sr. in the DCU
Rick Flag Sr., as the name suggests, is Rick Flag Jr.’s father. He is a World War II veteran and is currently serving as the Director of A.R.G.U.S. (Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans). It is what you may consider the metahuman body of the United States in the DCU.
