Pebble Watches launched under new name: Core Devices

Remember Pebble watches? Yes, those monochromatic smartwatches that lasted a lifetime on a single charge. Well, those e-ink watches are back although with a new name following Google’s decision to make PebbleOS open source. Core Devices, the company founded by Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky has unveiled its first pair of e-ink watches. They are already available for pre-order and here’s everything you need to know about them.

New Pebble OS Watches Unveiled With 30 Days of Battery Life

Core Devices has revealed two new smartwatches powered by PebbleOS called the “Core 2 Duo” and the “Core Time 2“. Not to be confused with Intel’s legendary processors, these smartwatches have a timeless design that “closely follows the original Pebble DNA” according to Migicovsky.

These watches seem to solve a major pain point plaguing modern smartwatches: battery life. With both watches offering 30 days of battery backup, you can easily charge and forget it at least till the end of the month.

Furthermore, both models offer step and sleep tracking, IPX8 rating, and use the open-source PebbleOS. There’s also a microphone and speaker on both apart from support for 10,000+ watch faces and apps. They are compatible with both Android as well as iOS and can be charged using the standard Pebble charger.

What’s the difference then? Well, the Core 2 Duo has a 1.2-inch monochromatic e-paper display and a design based on the iconic Pebble 2. It has a barometer and compass support sitting inside a polycarbonate frame. It costs $149 and will start shipping in July 2025.

On the other hand, the Pebble Core Time 2 is Migicovsky’s dream watch and offers a bigger 1.5-inch 64-bit color e-paper display. It has the same display as the Pebble Time 2 although it’s sharper and bigger.

The Core Time 2 also opts for a premium metal frame and has a touchscreen, making it the first Pebble watch with a touchscreen. With heart rate monitoring support and a vibration motor, it is the company’s flagship smartwatch.

It has a flat glass lens to reduce the glare and reflections on the screen and more details about the Core Time 2 will be shared later this year. Both watches are hackable meaning you can always tinker around and flash a custom firmware if you want.

With a retail price of $225, it will start shipping in December this year. Migicovsky has revealed both watches will be on sale in limited quantities and you can pre-order them right now. Sold exclusively via the company’s official store, it will be shipped globally except for a few countries due to US export restrictions.
