Today’s selections pair a Western-inspired idiom for making a quick escape with a centuries-old phrase describing the act of using flattery to gain an advantage. These expressions contrast the rugged urgency of leaving a dangerous situation with the subtle, calculated social maneuvering of trying to please someone for personal gain. I’d rate it a solid 3 out of 5.
