- Google’s upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be the first foldable with an IP68 rating.
- It will be dust and water-resistant, just like the traditional smartphones.
- The new hinge is going to be thinner, resulting in a bigger outer display.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold was one of the revolutionary foldable phones from Google. It packed a solid display, flagship performance, and a clean software experience, everything Pixel users expect. Now, leaks around its successor, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, hint at even bigger upgrades with a slimmer hinge design to IP68 water and dust resistance.

Every year, Google tries to improve its foldable smartphone. The upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold is no different. According to a new report by Android Headlines, this next-gen foldable is expected to fix two of the biggest issues users had with the previous model: the bulky hinge and lack of durability.
What’s Changing in the Pixel 10 Pro Fold
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is bringing these two major changes from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold:
1. Slimmer Hinge
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will feature a notably thinner or smaller hinge. The slimmer hinge will improve pocketability and give the folding phone a sleeker, more handy feel. It will make the overall device thinner than its predecessor.

2. Thinner Bezels with a bigger outer screen
Making a smaller hinge will increase the outer display screen size, keeping the same size as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Basically, they will stretch out the bezel from the cover display a little bit to increase the outer display size from 6.3 to 6.4 inches. This will make it larger than its other variants like the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro.
3. IP68 Dust and Water Resistance
Traditionally, foldables like the Pixel Fold and Samsung’s Z Fold and Flip series come with IPX8 water resistance but no dust protection. However, the upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to get an IP68 rating, meaning it will be dust-tight (rated “6”) and water-resistant (up to 1 meter for 30 minutes).
This could solve one of the biggest issues with foldable phones — their vulnerability to dust due to the fragile plastic screen on the inner display. This would be a major durability upgrade and a huge step forward for foldables in general.
These changes could finally help remove the “fragile” tag that foldable phones have carried for years. It’s one of the key reasons they haven’t sold as well as regular smartphones. Let’s see how Google manages to pack both the IP68 rating and the redesigned hinge into the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Stay tuned for more updates like this.
