Pragmata has more than one way to end, and if you want to see everything the story has to offer, you'll need to put in some extra work after the credits roll. There are two endings in the game, the Normal Ending and the True Ending, and only one of them shows you the full picture of what happens to Hugh and Diana. This guide breaks down how to unlock all endings in Pragmata, what you need to do for each one, and what the True Ending actually means for the story.

How Many Endings Does Pragmata Have?

Pragmata has two endings: the Normal Ending and the True Ending (also called the Secret Ending). The Normal Ending is what everyone gets on their first playthrough. The True Ending is unlocked through post-game content called Unknown Signal.

Ending TypeDetails
Normal Ending• Beat the game
• Unlocks New Game+
• Unlocks Lunatic Mode
• Unlocks Unknown Signal
True Ending• 100% all Sectors
• Defeat all Mk. II Bosses
• Complete 10 Sim Pod missions
• Collect and equip the Black Box Mod
• Fight the final boss for the second time

Pragmata Normal Ending

The Normal Ending is what you get just by finishing the main campaign. Once you reach Sector 06: Central Port and defeat the final boss, the ending plays out.

When the credits roll, you unlock several things for your next run:

RewardWhat It Is
New Game+Carry over all your upgrades and gear into a fresh run.
Lunatic ModeThis is the hardest difficulty in the game. You lose everything but rebuild faster.
Jackhammer Assault UnitOne of the strongest weapons in the game, and the only melee option.
Unknown SignalPost-game mode that gives you access to the Hidden Chamber.

It's worth noting that New Game+ and Unknown Signal are two separate things:

  • In New Game+, you carry your gear over into a full fresh playthrough.
  • In Unknown Signal, you load your completed save, and the game will drop you back just before the final boss, but now with new areas unlocked. You don't lose your progress, and you don't need to replay the entire game.

The Normal Ending itself shows Diana and Hugh reaching the conclusion of their mission, but it leaves some things open. If you want the full story, you'll need to go through Unknown Signal.

How to Unlock the Pragmata True Ending (Secret Post-Credits Scene)

The True Ending is locked behind the Unknown Signal post-game mode, which only unlocks after you finish the campaign once. Even if you grabbed every collectible like REMs, Mini Cabins, or Pure Lunum during your first run, the True Ending still won't trigger until you go through Unknown Signal properly.

Here's everything you need to do, in order:

Step 1: Finish the Campaign

Complete the main story and reach the Normal Ending. This is the only requirement before Unknown Signal opens up.

Step 2: Start Unknown Signal

From the main menu, select Unknown Signal and load your completed save. This takes you back to just before the final boss fight, but now you have access to a brand new sector called the Hidden Chamber.

Step 3: Reach 100% in All Sectors

Go back through every sector and find all collectibles and hidden items. Use the Object Scan ability to check anything you missed on your first run. It's good to know that nothing is permanently missable here. Unknown Signal lets you return to any sector freely, so don't worry if you skipped things during the main story.

One thing worth noting: Mini Cabin figures do not count toward your sector completion percentage, so don't stress about hunting them down for this step. There is a separate trophy for collecting all of them, though.

Step 4: Defeat All Mk. II Bosses

Every end-of-sector boss has a powered-up Mk. II version located in the same location where you originally fought them. Take down all five. Completing a 100% sector and beating its Mk. II boss each unlock one of the 10 Hidden Chamber simulation missions.

Step 5: Complete All 10 Sim Pod Missions

In the Hidden Chamber, you will find Big Cabin, a robot who oversees the 10 simulation pods. These missions are completely separate from the standard Training Simulations. There's no time limit or ranking requirement, but they're some of the hardest challenges in the game. Big Cabin will keep you updated on your progress and also share lore as you go.

Step 6: Collect the Black Box Mod

Once all 10 simulations are done, the room behind Big Cabin opens up. Inside, you'll find:

RewardType
Black Box ModEquippable mod (required for the True Ending)
Lim CannonAn Attack Unit that uses Lunafilament as ammo.
Obsidia OutfitCosmetic
Black Neon OutfitCosmetic

Step 7: Equip the Black Box Mod and Fight the Final Boss Again

This is the most important step. Go back to Central Port, equip the Black Box Mod in one of Hugh's mod slots, and take on the powered-up version of the final boss. This version has new attack patterns and hacking challenges you won't have seen before, so be ready for a tougher fight.

Clearing this fight also earns you the The Right Man for the Job trophy, so trophy hunters will want to make sure the mod is equipped before heading in. Once you win, make sure you save your game. That completed save carries all your post-game progress into New Game+, so skipping this step could mean repeating content you've already cleared.

After you win, the ending plays out just like the Normal Ending, right up until the very end, where an extra post-credits scene plays, which the Normal Ending leaves ambiguous.

Pragmata Ending Explained: What Happens to Hugh and Diana?

WARNING: This section contains full spoilers for both endings.

In the Normal Ending, Hugh stays behind and lets Diana go to Earth. The dead filament in his body can’t be cured, so he accepts his fate, and he sends Diana off in a shuttle while he stays behind.

In the True Ending, things look the same at first, but the Black Box Mod changes everything. Its description says it can slow down the dead filament in humans, which is what’s killing Hugh. You won’t see any difference during the game, but it matters at the end.

After the credits, you hear footsteps and a door, then Cabin says, “Welcome back! What’s this? Travelling alone today?” That line confirms Hugh survived and made it back, while Diana is still on Earth. The Black Box Mod worked.

Diana’s last line in the game, “I’m ready,” also feels different here. It could mean she’s ready to live her life on Earth, or that she plans to find Hugh again. Again, even in the True Ending, the game leaves it open. It’s not clear if this leads to a sequel or just ends on a hopeful note, but the True Ending is the better one to go for.

Important Things You Can't Miss

There are a few moments in Pragmata flagged as points of no return for the main story. However, since Unknown Signal lets you return to any sector after the credits roll, nothing is permanently missable across your overall save. You can clean up any collectibles or encounters you skipped during the campaign once you're in Unknown Signal mode.

The only thing that matters is making sure you go through Unknown Signal before attempting the True Ending fight, since you can't access the Hidden Chamber or the Black Box Mod any other way.
