Healing in Pragmata is straightforward but limited. Hugh starts with only one Repair Charge, meaning you can only heal once before needing to return to the Shelter. Finding Cartridge Holders increases your maximum Repair Charges, letting you survive longer during dangerous sectors and boss battles. Here's how to get more Repair Charges and how the healing system works.

How Repair Charges work in Pragmata

Repair Charges are Hugh's healing resource. When you take damage, you can use a Repair Charge to restore health. Each Repair Charge refills your health completely, making them extremely valuable during tough combat encounters.

You start the game with one Repair Charge, which severely limits how long you can survive without returning to the Shelter. Every time you rest at the Shelter, your Repair Charges refill to your maximum capacity. However, finding Cartridge Holders permanently increases this maximum, giving you more healing uses before needing to retreat.

Cartridge Holders are the only way to increase your Repair Charge capacity. Each Cartridge Holder you find adds one additional charge to your total. This makes finding them one of your top priorities as you explore the lunar research facility.

How to Get More Repair Charges in Pragmata

There are two main methods for obtaining Cartridge Holders and increasing your Repair Charge capacity. Cartridge Holders appear as orange devices. You need to explore side areas, optional rooms, and hidden sections to find most Cartridge Holders.

  • Sector 1 Block 3: The Concourse: The first Cartridge Holder you can find appears midway through Sector 1 in The Concourse area.
  • Sector 2 Block 4: Business District: This Cartridge Holder sits on the border between Block 3 (Side Alley) and Block 4 (Business District) in Sector 2.

Cabin Stamp Club rewards

Cartridge Holders also appear as rewards on Cabin Stamp Club Stamp Boards. You unlock these by spending Cabin Coins to fill slots on bingo-style boards. Some Stamp Boards offer Cartridge Holders as rewards for:

  • Achieving one bingo (completing three slots in a row horizontally or vertically)
  • Getting multiple bingos on the same board
  • Achieving blackout (filling all slots on the board)

The Trainee Stamp Board, which is the first one you unlock, offers a Cartridge Holder for completing one bingo. This makes it relatively easy to get your first Stamp Board Cartridge Holder early in the game. Save your Cabin Coins until you reach at least Sector 3 before spending heavily on Stamp Boards. The rewards improve significantly in later boards, and you'll have collected more coins by that point. However, getting that first bingo on the Trainee board is worth prioritizing for the extra healing capacity.

Can You Beat the Game with One Repair Charge?

Technically yes, but it's extremely challenging and not recommended for first playthroughs. If you find yourself running low on health frequently, you can return to the Shelter to refill your charges at any time. However, constantly traveling back to the Shelter disrupts gameplay flow and wastes time. It's far more efficient to spend a few extra minutes exploring each sector to find Cartridge Holders. The permanent increase to your healing capacity pays off throughout the entire game.

Cartridge Holders are some of the most valuable upgrades in Pragmata. They directly increase your survivability and reduce frustration during tough encounters. Make exploration a priority, spend Cabin Coins wisely on Stamp Boards, and you'll have plenty of healing capacity for whatever the lunar facility throws at you.
