Proton Pass has released an update that brings several improvements to the popular password manager app. You will now be able to autofill online forms on your Android smartphones and also use biometrics to sign in to different apps on your desktop. Note that the biometrics feature is only available to paid users.
Previously, Proton Pass could only save information like credit card details and notes inside the encrypted vault. Proton Pass has introduced a new feature called Identities (free for all users) which will allow you to save information that you can then autofill in forms. Like passwords, identities and data contained within, are saved into an encrypted vault. So what kind of information you can save into Identities? Some examples include names, addresses, phone numbers, company information, etc. But wait? There is more.
You can also save ID cards like driver’s license, passport, or any other government IDs, SSNs, social security numbers, etc. Not only that, it can also hold social media handles and profile details, email IDs, and more. Most of us live on the internet with profiles on various sites. This should make accessing them seamless.
You can unlock the Proton Pass using Windows Hello and TouchID on the Mac which will make it easier and quick to sign in to supported apps but also secure since both use encryption. So much better than entering passwords manually or even having to mess with the password manager interface.
Proton Pass, the company says, will be available on all major platforms. Judging by their downloads page, it should work on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and browsers like Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Safari. Ensure to update the app to the below versions for features to work.
- Android: 1.24.1
- iOS: 1.12.2
- macOS / Windows / Linux: 1.22
- Browser extensions / Web app: 1.21.2
While the feature isn’t new as many other password manager apps like Dashlane offer it, Proton Pass users have been asking for this for some time now. For those who are new to Proton, plans begin at $2/month.
Did you know, Proton also has a free VPN option? However, we recommend you go for paid VPNs for these reasons.
