Capcom surprised fans at Summer Game Fest 2025 by revealing Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the survival horror franchise. The game will launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. After months of speculation and rumors about Resident Evil 9, fans finally have official confirmation of the next chapter in the iconic horror series.

Resident Evil Requiem

A Classic Fake-Out Reveal

The announcement came after a clever misdirection. Earlier in the Summer Game Fest show, Capcom representatives appeared on stage to celebrate Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary but told audiences they’d have to wait longer for news about the next game. About 20 minutes later, Resident Evil Requiem was revealed as the show’s final surprise.

The reveal trailer took its time building suspense, starting in what appeared to be an ordinary office setting before things turned creepy.

New Protagonist Grace Ashcroft

The game follows Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent who gets assigned to investigate a mysterious illness causing multiple deaths. Grace appears to be connected to the Ashcroft family from previous Resident Evil games, specifically Alyssa Ashcroft from the Outbreak series. The trailer shows Grace receiving her assignment at the FBI bureau before heading to investigate the hotel. As expected in a Resident Evil game, things quickly go wrong, and she finds herself fighting for survival.

Early Demo Coming

While the full game launches in February 2026, fans won’t have to wait that long to try it. A playable demo will be available at Gamescom in August 2025, giving attendees their first hands-on experience with the new entry.

Resident Evil Requiem’s announcement shows that the franchise is moving forward while honoring its survival horror heritage. The introduction of Grace Ashcroft as a new protagonist offers fresh opportunities, while the return to classic horror elements should satisfy long-time fans.
