Fishing Tools
You need to use some Tools to survive underwater and catch fish. There are two major tools: Harpoons and Tubes. Tubes help you survive underwater, and Harpoons are guns that allow you to catch fish. Here are their details:
1. Tubes

You can purchase Tubes from the David NPC in the Forgotten Dome area with money. Each Tube has four stats, as listed below:
- O2: It indicates the amount of oxygen you get underwater.
- Depth: It determines how far you can venture in the Abyss.
- Speed: It affects the Tube’s maximum speed.
- Weight: It displays the maximum weight the Tube can carry underwater.
2. Harpoons

You can purchase Harpoons or guns from the Henry NPC in the Forgotten Dome with money. All Harpoons have three stats, as listed below:
- Damage: The amount of damage a gun inflicts while catching a fish.
- Cooldown: The time a Harpoon requires to cool down before shooting again. It is measured in seconds.
- Control: It affects the difficulty of the mini-game that triggers while catching a fish. It’s easy to catch fish using Harpoons that have higher Control stats.
Catching Fish
After equipping Harpoons and Tubes, it’s time to go fishing. Here is a step-by-step guide to catching fish:
- The Tube activates once you enter the water body. On the other hand, you must equip the Harpoon in your hand from the hot bar.
- Aim at the fish you want to catch, and use the M1 button to shoot the Harpoon.
- A minigame appears on the side of your screen. You might have to inflict some damage on the fish to trigger the minigame.
- You will see two bars. One contains a fish icon and a green rectangle box, and another bar shows your progress. Keep the fish icon inside the green rectangle box by pressing and holding the M1 button until the progress bar fills.

You can cancel the minigame at anytime by pressing the “X” key on your keyboard. The caught fish will be stored in your backpack.
All fish have different weights. Your Tube decides how much weight you can carry. You can see the details in the bottom-left corner of your screen near the oxygen indicator. The Tube’s capacity and the fish’s weight determine how many fish you can carry.
For instance, the Old Tube can carry up to 10 Kg. If you catch one fish weighing 9 Kg and another weighing 2 Kg, you won’t be able to reel in more fish. You must either store it in your Personal Stash or sell it to the Kraken. Additionally, your oxygen depletes gradually in the water body. So, keep an eye on the weight and oxygen level while fishing.
Complete the Quests

The Abyss has various areas you can explore, as listed below:
- The Forgotten Dome
- Ocean
- Ancient Sands
- Spirit Root
You start in the Forgotten Dome area as an Abyss beginner. It contains various NPCs, including The Kraken, that grant quests. Here is their list:
- The Kraken: Gives main quests that involve buying equipment and catching fish.
- Scientist: Gives quests related to collecting items to activate the Teleporter device.
- Virelia: Gives quests related to collecting Geodes.
- Mr. Black: Gives quests related to catching mutated fish.
You can receive money, Shards, XP points, and in-game items. Abyss beginners are recommended to complete all the Forgotten Dome quests before exploring other regions.
Understanding Artifacts

Artifacts are the important items in Abyss. You can equip them to receive various buffs; some also grant debuffs. They can affect one or multiple of the following stats:
- Speed
- Weight
- Cooldown
- XP
- Oxygen
They can be obtained from Geodes or by completing specific quests. You can find Geodes while fishing; the process to catch them is the same as catching fish. After getting a Geode, submit it to the Virelia NPC to crack it open and discover artifacts. You must pay $75 and wait for a minute to open one Geode. Here is the list of Geodes and artifacts they grant:
| Geodes | Artifacts (Rarity) |
|---|---|
| Mossy | – Banana (Common) – Poop (Epic) – Sea Star (Common) – Hour Glass (Uncommon) – Fish Bag (Rare) – Feather (Rare) – Holy Flower (Legendary) |
| Cactus | – Cactus (Common) – Fish Crate (Uncommon) – Sea Mine (Rare) – Mutated Skull (Epic) – Divine Hour Glass (Legendary) – Infernal Eye (Mythical) |
| Rooted | – Tank (Common) – Lantern (Uncommon) – Rune of Might (Rare) – Demonic Hour Glass (Epic) – Eternal Crystal (Legendary) – Wraith Flower (Mythical) |
Here are the artifacts you can obtain by completing quests:
| Quests | Artifacts |
|---|---|
| Complete Crab Quest | Crab Claw (Secret) |
| Complete King Cat’s Quest | The King’s Fortune (Secret) |
| Complete Lightkeeper’s Quest | Ruined Lantern (Secret) |
Higher-rarity artifacts have a lower drop rate, but provide multiple buffs. There are three artifact slots, and you can equip only one initially. You can unlock the second slot by reaching level 10 and the third by reaching level 20.
Upgrade Personal Stash

You can find a Portable Stash near the Billy NPC. It can store the fish you caught. Since each Tube can carry a fixed amount of weight, it’s recommended to use the stash to store the fish you don’t want to sell. You can withdraw your deposits from the Portable Stash at any time.
You can also upgrade the stash’s capacity by spending a certain amount of money. Each subsequent upgrade costs more money than the previous one.
Races

Races are game mechanics that grant passive effects or buffs to your character. You can access the race menu by tapping its button at the top of your screen. There are a total of 16 races, including the starter one, Human. Each race belongs to one of the six rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Mythical. Higher-rarity races have a lower drop rate, but provide multiple buffs and passive effects.
Your race significantly affects your gameplay, so choosing the best one is key to smooth progression. We have a separate Abyss race guide that includes the complete list of races, their drop rates, buffs, and passive effects, and the process of rerolling.
Tips and Tricks for Abyss Beginners
Here are some of the useful tips and tricks for Abyss beginners:
- Some fish can inflict damage on you, such as Pufferfish and Lionfish. Receiving damage quickly reduces your oxygen level. The hostile fish will have a red dot or an exclamation mark over them. Don’t go near them if you want to survive.
- Upon dying, you’ll lose 25% of your catch and cash. Sell all fish you catch after every run.
- Buy the Radar device from Richard NPC. You can use the Radar in water to view the names, hit points, and mutations of the fish. It will be easier to complete the quests and decide which fish to catch.
- Unlock the Teleporter as soon as you can. It will help you fast-travel to different locations. You can do so by completing the quest given by the Scientist NPC.
- Open Beastiary after collecting new fish and claim free Shards. These in-game currencies will help you reroll races. You can also earn Shards by completing various achievements.
- Lastly, complete all the quests and purchase all items in the Forgotten Dome before exploring other regions. You will have become accustomed to the game, possess the best items, and level up significantly to make your journey easier.
