Weight and Storage capacity are major problems for Abyss beginners. Your backpack can store fish up to the Tube‘s maximum weight stat. If your catch’s total weight exceeds the Tube’s limit, you must either sell or upgrade your gear. There is also a Portable Stash, where you can deposit and withdraw fish anytime. However, it also has a limit. Luckily, you can increase Weight and Storage in Abyss, and this article will guide you to do so.

Why Increase Weight and Storage
You can find your current Weight stat in the bottom-left corner of the screen, below the Oxygen indicator. Increasing Weight and Storage helps you progress smoothly in-game. Here are some of the reasons to increase them:
- More Weight allows carrying more fish, heavy ones, and rarer species. You will be able to earn more income in a single run.
- Carrying items more than your backpack’s capacity slows your movement speed and depletes oxygen rapidly.
- Increasing Storage lets you store plenty of fish that you don’t want to sell.
- A higher Weight stat lets you explore more regions in a single run without having to go to the base and sell them frequently.
- Some quests require carrying heavy items; For instance, the Diver’s delivery quests. Therefore, increase your weight as soon as possible for a smooth in-game progression.

In the next section, you can find all the ways to increase Weight and Storage.

4. Upgrade Portable Stash
You can find Portable Stash in all locations: Forgotten Dome, Ancient Sands, and Spirit Roots. It is where you can deposit and withdraw the fish you don’t want to sell or save for later. Since it is your personal stash, other players won’t be able to view it or steal from it. Initially, it can accommodate up to a maximum of 8 fish. However, you can upgrade it to store more.
While you can access it in any location, you can upgrade it only by interacting with the Billy NPC. He is located in the Forgotten Dome. Here is a step-by-step guide:
- Find Billy NPC in the Forgotten Dome. He is near the Scientist NPC, in front of a blue cargo.
- Approach him and press the “E” key on your keyboard to open the action prompts.
- Click the Upgrade my storage action prompt.
- Pay the required amount and upgrade the storage.

Every upgrade increases the Portable Stash’s capacity by eight. Here are the details:
| Stages | Size | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 8 | Receive when joining the game |
| 2 | 16 | $1,250 |
| 3 | 24 | $4,750 |
| 4 | 32 | $15,000 |
| 5 | 40 | $50,000 |
