Classes in Animal Hospital define how you play each shift, giving you different starting perks ranging from extra Sanity to weapons that let you deal with anomalies. Every player starts with Intern by default, but the Class Shop in the lobby has nine more options to unlock using Animal Coins earned from completing shifts or Robux for the premium picks. Each class also has three levels, meaning you can upgrade whichever one fits your playstyle to improve it further over time.

How to Change Classes in Animal Hospital

Switching your class is quick and can be done from the lobby before a shift starts:

  • Open the game and head to the lobby
  • Look for the Class button on the left side of your screen
  • Click it to open the class selection menu
  • Browse your unlocked classes and select the one you want to equip
  • Purchase any class you have not unlocked yet using Animal Coins or Robux directly from this menu

Keep in mind you cannot switch classes mid-shift so make sure you have the right one equipped before joining a round.

Best Classes in Animal Hospital

Surgeon is the strongest Animal Coin class for most players. Recovering Sanity and getting a speed boost every time you heal a patient means you are constantly rewarded for doing the core objective, making it far more sustainable than the Doctor class it effectively replaces.

Secret Agent is the best class overall if you are willing to spend Robux. Starting each shift with a gun that has 20 uses gives you a reliable answer to anomalies without having to rely on finding items during the round, which dramatically reduces how much pressure you feel while managing patients at the same time.

Avoid spending early Animal Coins on Nurse or Secretary since their perks are too minor to meaningfully affect how a shift plays out compared to what you get from Doctor or Surgeon later down the line. For more guides check out our Animal Hospital wiki.
