Samsung has announced the mass production of the industry’s thinnest LPDDR5X DRAM packages, designed to improve on-device AI computation in Samsung smartphones and laptops. These new DRAM packages measure just 0.65mm in thickness, which is how thin an average fingernail is, representing a significant advancement in mobile and AI-driven device technology.

Key Features and Advancements

1. Industry-Leading Thinness: Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM packages are the thinnest in the industry at just 0.65mm, enabling the development of sleeker and more compact devices like smartphones without impacting performance. Although, I would like Samsung to fit a larger battery in the same space and offer better battery life.

2. Improved On-Device AI Performance: The new DRAM packages are optimized for AI features, ensuring faster and more efficient processing for AI applications on mobile devices It will be available in 12GB and 16GB variants.

3. Energy Efficiency: Samsung’s LPDDR5X is the thinnest 12 nm-class LPDDR DRAM. The thickness has been reduced by around 9% while heat resistance has improved by 21.2% compared to the previous gen. The latter is important as smartphones get more powerful, equipped with processors that can not only handle multiple heavy apps and games but also perform on-device AI computations.
