Samsung Health app is getting two new features. One is family health sharing data and the other is the ability to scan medications to add details and know more. Something that Apple’s Health app can already do. While the Samsung Health app is available on both Android and iOS, users will need both Galaxy smartphone and Galaxy Watch for these features to work.
1. Family Health Sharing
Android Authority in their APK teardown found that soon users will be able to share the Health app data to other family members. Useful when you want to track the health data of your child or grandparent using a Samsung Watch on their wrist. Of course, you must add the family member first and give the necessary permissions.
Samsung has put thought into privacy and security too. Users can stop sharing data at any point and also control what data will be shared. Only those authorized to receive this Samsung Account health data will access this data. A preview will be generated before the data is shared at the time of setting things up so users will know how it appears to the other person.
Whoever wants to share health data with their friends or family members must own a Galaxy smartphone along with a Galaxy Watch; both are a must. At the moment, it is not clear which Galaxy Watch versions may get this feature or whether it will be exclusive to the upcoming Watch 7 series.
2. Scan Your Medications
The medication feature was only introduced last year and here is Samsung with some new enhancements and features. During the APK teardown, Android Authority also found a feature where users can scan their medications to add them to their Samsung Account.
Upon scanning the medication using your camera:
- it will add the details of the pill, capsule, or syrup to the Health app
- send reminders to take the medications
- share additional information like description, side effects, things to keep in mind, etc.
Other information may include allergies or potential conflicts with other medications or food that users are taking and have already been added to the Health app. You will be able to add allergies to the list to gain more insight and avoid potential outbreaks.
Samsung’s Unpacked Event is approaching fast and it is expected to release Fold 6 and Flip 6 smartphones along with Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Ring.
