Google’s Gemini AI has been available in Gmail as an addon in the side panel allowing users to summarize their emails and suggest replies to the emails. Now, Gmail and Gemini on Android will see a deeper integration where you can ask Gemini questions and receive answers around your emails. This will change how you search Gmail for not only emails but also contents and attachments.
Yesterday, Google announced a new Gmail feature where you can ask questions and Gemini will answer them. The feature was available to Gmail web users already but it is now being rolled out to mobile users too starting with Android. You can not only search your emails but also the contents of Drive right from inside Gmail using Gemini. But that is only limited to the web app. You can’t search Drive using Gemini inside Gmail on mobile apps.
Some examples can be “when is the next AGM” or “minutes of the meeting” or “total expenses in last office trip”. Some other examples can be to find all unread emails from X or summarize and translate emails, etc. Dubbed Gmail Q&A feature, it is rolling out to Android phones and soon will land on iPhones and iPads too. Gmail Q&A is like AI but for your inbox.
Note to Admins: If you are using Gmail in Workspace, ask your admin to enable smart features and personalization.
The feature is available to Google Workspace users with these add-ons: Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Education Premium or Google One AI Premium. Google says the rollout will take around 15 days to finish.
To use Gemini in the Gmail mobile app, tap the black star icon in the top-right corner or summarize this email button.
