Want to message someone on WhatsApp without saving their number? Sometimes, you might need to save a WhatsApp contact just to send a single message or complete a task. For example, you might save the contact of a plumber or technician to coordinate their arrival or discuss an issue, or you might save the number of a delivery driver to confirm your address or provide special instructions
We’ve all been there. But this ends up creating tons of unwanted contacts on your phone, and it simply clutters the UI. Thankfully, you can send WhatsApp messages directly without saving contacts. I’ll tell you how.

Method 1: Text Yourself on WhatsApp (The Easiest Way)
Last year, WhatsApp released a feature that allowed you to text yourself. You can do so by messaging the “You” chat inside the app. And this is the easiest way to text someone without saving someone’s WhatsApp number. Here’s how it works:
- Open WhatsApp and find and open the You chat. You can use the search box to find it.
- Type the number you want to message without saving their number, and then send it.
- Once you’ve sent the message in the chat, simply tap on it.
- WhatsApp will automatically search for and check if the number is available on WhatsApp.
- Tap Chat with <mobile number to text them directly without saving their number to your contact list.
Method 2: Tap on Numbers in Chats Directly
If you receive a number on WhatsApp from another contact or group chat, you don’t need to copy and paste it anywhere. Again, tap the number directly. WhatsApp will check if they’re on the platform. If they are, tap Chat with <mobile number> to start talking right away.
Method 3: Third-Party Apps for Quick Messaging
Many third-party apps allow you to message someone on WhatsApp instantly without saving them to your contacts. While there are tons of such apps out there, I’ll be using a rather simple one called “Click to Chat.” Reason being it has no ads and is only 133KB in size.
- For Android users, download and install Click to Chat from the Google Play Store.
iPhone users will need to download the Never Saved app. - Open the app and add the number’s prefix code, which is the country code (+1 for USA, +91 for India, and so on).
- Next, enter the number of the person you want to text without saving them to your phone.
- Finally, tap “Open,” and you’ll directly land on their chat screen on WhatsApp.
If you use both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Web, the app will prompt you to choose either.
Method 4: Create a Chat Link Without Saving Numbers
Prefer not to use a third-party app? No problem. You can manually create a chat link for yourself that directly takes you to that contact on WhatsApp without having to save their number on your phone. This is an official WhatsApp feature called Click to Chat and the link shared in the steps below is from WhatsApp.
- Open Chrome (or any other browser) on your phone. In the search bar, type “wa.me/<mobile number with country code>“.
For example: https://wa.me/+919876512345. - Tap on Continue to Chat.
- It will automatically redirect you to their chat on WhatsApp.
When you open this link on a PC, you’ll be prompted to choose whether to open it in the WhatsApp Desktop app or continue using WhatsApp Web.
Method 5: Use a WhatsApp Link Generator
You can also automate the above URL method by using a WhatsApp Link Generator. All you need to do is enter the mobile number you’d like to chat with, and the website will automatically generate the chat URL for you. Here’s how it works:
- Visit https://create.wa.link/ in your browser.
- Tap on Create a free wa. link.
- Enter the WhatsApp number you want to message, including the country code.
- Tap on Preview. It will take you to the WhatsApp page.
- Here, tap on Continue Chatting to open their chat on WhatsApp.
Method 6: Use iOS Shortcut to Send a WhatsApp Message
On iPhones running iOS 12 and later, you can use a shortcut to select a number from anywhere, such as Safari, Notes, Mail, Photos, or Contacts through the share sheet. It will open WhatsApp and allow you to send a message without saving the number to your iPhone.
No, you don’t need to create a shortcut yourself; there’s already one shown below.
- Visit the Send WhatsApp shortcut link and tap Get Shortcut.
- It will automatically redirect you to the Shortcuts app. Tap Add Shortcut.
- Now, head back to wherever you want to select the number from. For example, if you just had a call with someone coming over to your place and want to share your live location, open the Phone app, tap the “i” next to the number, tap Share Contact, and then choose Send WhatsApp from the share sheet menu.
- That should directly open the chosen number in WhatsApp.
Method 7: Using Truecaller’s WhatsApp Message Sender
Truecaller is a caller identification and spam detection app available on both Android and iOS. If you’re a Truecaller user, you may know that it has a WhatsApp button that lets you directly chat with someone from your call history, such as those who just called you recently. You don’t have to add the number to your contact list.
- Open Truecaller on your iPhone or Android device.
- In the call history tab, find the number you recently spoke with and tap on it.
- On the next screen, you’ll see a WhatsApp option. Tap on it.
- You’ll be automatically redirected to WhatsApp, where you can start chatting with the selected number.
Method 8: Send a WhatsApp Message Using Google Assistant (Android)
If you’re using an Android phone, you can ask Google Assistant to send a WhatsApp message to a mobile number (yes, you can say the entire phone number). This does not work with Gemini Assistant yet; here’s how to switch back if you’d like to.
Summon Google Assistant by saying “Hey Google” or by long-pressing your power button (if it’s set up that way). Now, ask it to send a WhatsApp message to the mobile number, for example: “Hey Google, send a WhatsApp message to +91 9826012345.” Make sure you add the country code.
It will then prompt you to enter the message you’d like to send. Type your message and press Send. Google Assistant will send the message on your behalf. You can check WhatsApp to find a chat with that number.
Method 9: Send a WhatsApp Message Using Siri (iOS)
Just like Google Assistant, you can ask Siri on your iPhone to send a WhatsApp message to a mobile number. Trigger Siri by saying “Hey Siri” or by long-pressing the Side key, then ask it to send the message. For example, “Hey Siri, send a WhatsApp message to +91 9826012345.“
Next, Siri will ask what the message is. Type your message and hit Send. Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit buggy right now and doesn’t work with all numbers.
WhatsApp Anyone Effortlessly
By following these simple steps, you can quickly and easily message people on WhatsApp without adding them to your contacts. This can save you time and hassle, especially if you frequently receive numbers from strangers or temporary contacts. I personally prefer to send the number to myself, but you can also try tapping directly on the number or using a URL method.
Remember: When using third-party apps and websites, be cautious and avoid sharing personal information. These methods are best suited for temporary or public contacts. Give them a try and see how much time and effort you can save.
