Solo Leveling season 2 is finally here, and episode 1 made a smashing debut, as expected. Jinwoo, once the weakest hunter, is now proving his worth, and the audience can’t help but appreciate it. After becoming the Shadow Monarch in season 1, the protagonist has gained significant power.
In episode 1 of season 2, Jinwoo tries his best to keep his newfound powers hidden but is at a loss when a sudden Red Gate opens. The episode shows him using Igris for the first time in a battle, a moment everyone has been waiting for.

Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
The episode begins with Jinwoo’s younger sister, Jinah, waking him up for a meeting with her teachers. There, the teacher tells Jinwoo that Jinah is an exceptional student and asks whether he will let her become a hunter if she is awakened. Jinwoo shows a strong denial as he realizes the hazards of the job.
He then meets up with Songyi, an E-rank hunter who is also a close friend of Jinah. Jinwoo tries to make her understand that it’s a dangerous thing to be a hunter and takes her to a place where recently a C-Rank gate opened up. There, they meet an assault team consisting of some A, B, and C rankers. Jinwoo thought it would be the best way to make Songyi back up.
But as soon as he entered the gate, he gets a feeling that something was extremely wrong. Suddenly, the C-Rank gate turns into a Red Gate, and the team enters a snowy area. The outside world can no longer intervene with their mission, and they will have to defeat the boss to escape.
The team is quickly surrounded by Ice Demons. An A-Rank guy, Kim Chul, decides that it’s best to divide the team into two: the strong ones and the weaklings. Jinwoo has Songyi, and one B and C ranker in his team now, but no one knows his actual rank. Both teams are faced with terrifying Ice Bears, but Jinwoo makes quick work of them.
Being the Shadow Monarch, he commands his army to come out and battle the bears. He also summons the shadow of the Blood-Red Commander, Igris. What follows next is a bloody battle as the shadow army is more powerful than Jinwoo expected. Finally, the boss ice-bear makes its debut.
It’s time for Igris to prove his worth, and he does so marvelously. The boss bear is left with several wounds and a severed head. The other team, however, did not have the best of luck. By the end of the episode, the team has been annihilated, with the captain running away from the Ice Demons. The boss of the Ice Demons has also made his entrance.
Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 2 Speculation
Episode 1 of season 2 also debuted a brand new character, Hwang Dongsoo, who has a menacing aura. He has returned to the country to avenge his brother’s death. He correctly guesses that it might be because of Jinwoo, which means he will be an antagonist in the story. It is a battle with Dongsoo that awaits Jinwoo once he escapes the Red Gate.
However, the main boss of the Red Gate is yet to appear. Only defeating it would guarantee an escape. Kim Chul, the captain of the team opposing Jinwoo, is on the verge of death and might not make it out. However, if the death toll gets too high, the survivors would make the news, putting Jinwoo in an unsavory spot.
Solo Leveling is one of the most anticipated Winter 2025 anime, and episode 13 has proved its worth. So, let’s see if the rest of the season can keep up.
