The Batman Part 2 villain

The Batman Part II will release on October 1, 2027, the same year as James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow. However, Robert Pattinson won’t be joining Gunn’s DCU. As of writing, Warner Bros. has not revealed any cast or plot details about The Batman sequel. We have only heard scattered comments from Matt Reeves and some cast members praising the script. That said, a statement Reeves recently made might have given away who the villain of The Batman Part 2 will be.

The Batman Part II Villain Has “Never Really Been Done in a Movie Before”

During a red carpet interview with Josh Horowitz, Matt Reeves opened up about The Batman Part II, revealing fresh details about the highly anticipated sequel. When Josh asked Reeves which villain he chose from Batman’s rogues gallery for the sequel, he teased that the antagonist will be someone who has “never really been done before in a film.”

While this can be anyone, ranging from Condiment King to Kite Man, Reeves’ specific comments seem to hint at a more defined direction. The Batman director revealed how the sequel’s villain will connect to Bruce Wayne and his past life. Only a handful of characters share a past with the billionaire Bruce Wayne, and we think we might have cracked it on who it might be.

Are the Court of Owls the Villains of The Batman Part 2

“Picking the right villain that digs into what that does, that sort of goes into his past and his life. That was what drove that discussion,” Reeves said in a conversation with Josh Horowitz. He also stated that he wants the story to center around Batman/Bruce Wayne while also telling the rogues gallery story on the side.

Going by Reeves’ comments, the Court of Owls as The Batman 2 villain seems like the only plausible option. The Court of Owls is a criminal organization cum secret society. Think of them as Gotham’s Illuminati, which consists of the city’s wealthiest families that pull the strings of whatever is happening in the city.

The comics even reveal that the Wayne family had a stake in the Court of Owls at one point. If Reeves wants to center the story around Batman while also telling a compelling story about a villain, the Court of Owls would be the best way to do so.

While Court of Owls seems like a likely answer, if we dig deeper into villains who fit the “never been done in a movie before” clue and share ties to Bruce Wayne’s past, another strong candidate to be the Batman 2 villain would be Hush. Hush, whose real name is Thomas Elliott, the entire storyline revolves around Bruce Wayne.

Elliot could also be a possible villain for Reeves’ Batman. Believing Bruce abandoned him, Elliot seeks revenge on Batman while attempting to expose his true identity. Another strong contender is Phantasm from Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. This could align especially given Reeves’ well-known admiration for Batman: The Animated Series.

Andrea Beaumont, the fiancee of Bruce Wayne, takes on the mantle of Phantasm after the tragic death of her father as she goes out on a quest for revenge. This sets her on a dark path, one that eventually puts her at odds with Batman himself.
