The Universal Tower Defense Record of Ragnarok update is coming very soon, and it’s bringing massive changes to the game. The developers are doing a complete meta reset to fix the balancing issues that have been plaguing UTD. If you’ve been waiting for fresh content and a more balanced game, this update is exactly what you need.

Universal Tower Defense Record of Ragnarok Release Date and Time
There is no official release date locked in yet for the Record of Ragnarok update. The UTD team has confirmed it is coming very soon, but they have not pinned down an exact time. What we do know is that the developer announced in the game’s Discord server that UTD is going offline for an indefinite period starting Thursday, March 5th, 2026, to prepare for the launch.
Based on the rumored dates and typical update patterns, if the update releases at 8:30 PM PT, here’s when it would drop in different time zones:
| Time Zone | Release Time |
|---|---|
| PT (Pacific Time) | 8:30 PM |
| ET (Eastern Time) | 11:30 PM |
| CET (Central European Time) | 5:30 AM (the next day) |
| IST (Indian Standard Time) | 10:00 AM (the next day) |
| JST (Japan Standard Time) | 1:30 PM (the next day) |
| AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Time) | 3:30 PM (the next day) |
The developers haven’t confirmed the exact date for the release, so keep coming back here to check, because we will update this section when the developers announce the fixed release date and time. We are sure it’s coming this March, though.
Countdown to Record of Ragnarok Update
If you still can open the game before it is down for maintenance, try to clean up your inventory, collect any pending rewards, and get familiar with your current units. Once the update hits, the meta is going to shift dramatically, so knowing what you have now will help you adapt faster.
- Countdown TBA
Finish up any ongoing events or farm some resources before everything changes. This is your last chance to experience UTD as it is right now.
Note: We will update the countdown timer in this section when we have the exact time for Record of Ragnarok.
What to Expect
The developers have been transparent about wanting to fix a lot of what went wrong in past updates, so this one carries a lot of weight. Here is everything confirmed to be coming:
- Record of Ragnarok collaboration content, themed around Gods vs Humanity.
- Over 100 bug fixes from previous updates.
- Major performance improvements and optimization across the board.
- A new Fission trait (0.15% chance) that gives +15% Damage, -15% SPA, +25% Range, and adds a Radiation DoT where enemies take 20% of your attack as damage over 10 seconds, and also take 20% more damage from all sources.
- Step-up Banner price reductions with current featured units rotating out.
- Power creep fixes, with units this update landing around Jinoo level and existing Dragon Ball units getting adjustments.
- New Featured Challenge that rewards rerolls (limited amount).
- A new currency is being added to the game.
- Etherealization Shards are becoming easier to get.
- Winter Shop extended for the full duration of the 1.5 update Fixed the bug where players loading in late caused the stage to start without them.
- No new Battlepass because the next one is planned for Update 2.0.
- 1.5 pity system: 1.2 million gems on the special banner guarantees a secret unit.
- Units from 1.5 onward will be separated by classes, not just raw DPS numbers.
- Both endgame content and beginner-friendly content are being added in the same update.
The Meta Reset
The biggest problem in UTD right now is that some units are way too powerful. You can basically clear stages with just one or two units, which makes the game boring and repetitive. The developers are fixing this by introducing a whole new system that makes you think about team building instead of relying on one overpowered character.
Right now, units like Jinoo are so strong that nothing else compares. Instead of nerfing these powerful units, the developers are bringing everyone else up to that level. But they’re also adding Unit Classes to prevent units from doing everything. Each class will have specific roles and limitations.
For example, hybrid units won’t be able to drop massive damage nukes anymore. Summoners will rely on their summons for damage instead of doing it themselves. High damage units won’t be able to target air enemies. This forces you to build actual teams instead of using one unit to carry everything.
Three Secret Rarity Units and Some Exclusive Units
This update introduces three Secret units, and the developers promise they will be the strongest units in the game. Beyond the Secret units, you will also find more Exclusive units scattered throughout the various events. These units have unique obtainment methods, so you will need to explore all the new content to get them.

New Game Modes
The devs are also adding multiple new game modes designed for both beginners and endgame players. If you’re new to UTD, this meta reset makes it easier to catch up since the power gap is getting smaller. If you’re an endgame player, there’s new challenging content specifically for you, including a new featured challenge mode:
- Faction PvP Event – This lets you compete against other players. This is completely new to Universal Tower Defense.
Synchro Drive
There is also a new mechanic called Synchro Drive, which is a unit fusion. While the developers haven’t given full details yet, this sounds like you’ll be able to combine units or their abilities in some way.
Record of Ragnarok is basically a relaunch of Universal Tower Defense. The developers are addressing the biggest complaint players have had. Plus, the fact that they’re adding so much content alongside the balance changes shows they’re serious about making UTD great again.
Be ready for new redeem codes, too! And who knows, they might also add an admin abuse to the game. While you wait for this update to drop, you can also check our dedicated Universal Tower Defense wiki for additional information about the game and its features!
