What do Various Icons and Symbols Mean in Amazon Music 🎵🎶

The mobile apps usually do not have labels explaining the meaning of icons. And that makes it difficult to use the app sometimes. If you have been wondering about the meaning of symbols in the Amazon Music app, I’m here to help. Understanding these symbols will make it much easier to navigate the app.

Icons on The Home Screen

  1. Bell Icon At the Top: This icon represents notifications and will show updates from the artists you follow.
  2. Settings Cog Icon: Tap this icon to open the settings menu.

Icons on the Playlist Screen

When you open any playlist in the Amazon Music app, the following icons will show up:

  1. Funnel Icon at the Top-Left Corner: Tap this icon to change the sort order of the song in the playlist and to filter the songs according to Downloaded or having lyrics categories.
  2. Crossing Arrows: Tap this icon to shuffle the playlist.
  3. Pencil Icon:/+Icon Use this icon to edit the playlist. You can change the playlist’s name, reorder the songs, or delete a song. This icon will only show up if you have created the playlist, otherwise, you will see a + (Plus) icon. Tapping it will add the playlist to your library.
  4. Down Arrow: This icon is the Download button. Tap it to download the song for offline use.
  5. Share Icon: Tap this icon to share the playlist but your playlist needs to be public.
  6. Three-dot: Tap this icon to see more options about the playlist.
  7. Big Play Button: Tap it to start playing the playlist from the first song.

Icons Next to Song Names

  1. + Icon: This icon will add the song to your library aka My Music, which differs from a playlist. A playlist is a curated folder of similar songs whereas the My Music section will have your favorite songs from different or no playlists. It’s like a big playlist of your favorite songs. To access it, go to Library and select Songs.
  2. Three-dot Icon: Tap this icon to see more options about the songs. For instance, you can add the song to a playlist or add it to the queue. You may also long press on the song to show the same menu.

Icons on the Now Playing Screen

When a song is playing, the following icons and symbols will show in the Amazon Music app:

  1. Down Arrow at Top: Use this icon to minimize the Now playing screen.
  2. Alexa Icon: This lets you access Alexa Assistant within the music app. You can use it to control the music using your voice. Also, check out the best sleep and relaxation sounds that Alexa can play.
  3. X-Ray: Tap this button to see more details about the song.
  4. Heart Icon: Tap this icon to add the song to your favorites folder also known as My Likes. You will find it under Library. If you have liked a song, the heart icon will appear blue.

Symbols at the Bottom of the Song

  1. Previous, Play/Pause, and Next: These are the usual symbols for playing the previous song, pause or play the song, and play the next song respectively.
  2. Share Icon: Tap this icon to share the song with your friends via third-party apps like WhatsApp, Messages, Facebook or Instagram Stories, and more.
  3. TV With Wi-Fi Icon: Tap this icon to stream or cast the song into supported devices like Echo Dot, Echo Show, etc. Also, know what is the Android equivalent of AirPlay.
  4. Play Symbol With Lines: This icon lets you see other or upcoming songs in the playlist.
  5. Three-Dot Icon: This icon will open another menu where you will see more icons like loop, shuffler, download, etc.

More Icons:

  1. Arrows in a Circle: Tap the icon once to repeat the entire playlist. Tap it again to repeat or loop the same song. You will see 1 written on the icon when loop mode for the same song is enabled. The selected loop type’s icon will also show on the three-dot icon.
  2. Crossed Arrows: This icon will shuffle the playlist.
  3. Arrow Pointing Downwards. Tap this icon to download the song. Once downloaded, the icon will turn into a checkmark or show as a blue icon while viewing the songs list.
  4. ((.)) icon: Tap this icon to play a similar song. 
  5. Hand Pointing Downwards: Tap this icon to dislike the song. This helps Amazon understand your music preferences and suggest similar songs.

Icons on the Podcast Playing Screen

The icons that show when you are listening to a podcast on the Amazon Music app are slightly different from the regular Now Play screen. Here’s what they mean:

  1. 15/30 in Circle With Arrow: These icons help you in fast-forwarding or going back in the podcast by 15 or 30 seconds.
  2. 1X: Tap this icon to change the speed of the podcast. You will get many speed options to choose from after tapping the icon.
  3. Moon With a Star: This icon represents Sleep Timer and will automatically pause the podcast after the selected time limit.
  4. Share: Use this icon to share the podcast with your friends via other apps.
  5. Cast Icon: Tap this icon to stream or cast the podcast on a supported device.
  6. Three-dot icon: Opens a menu to add the podcast to a playlist, mark it as played, and more.
