Last week, WhatsApp launched a new favorites filter feature that allows you to quickly access your friends and frequently used contacts. The feature has rolled out and all you have to do is update your WhatsApp app to the latest version if not auto-updated.
Note 1: At the time of writing this article, Favorites is available on both Android and iOS but not on the web app.
The favorites filter began to roll out last Tuesday but Meta has been testing it since February. This is not the first filter feature from WhatsApp though. A few months ago, they also introduced the chat filters which added All, Unread, and Group filters to the Chat screen right below the search bar. The Favorites filter sits next to the other filters.
Note 2: You can mark both contacts and groups as favorites to quickly connect with them.
Here’s how:
Add Contact and Groups to Favorites in WhatsApp
There are a few ways to do this.
From Chat Screen:
- Tap on the Favorites option below the search bar in Chats screen and then select Add to Favorites option below.
- Select the contacts that you want to add to the Favorites list to access faster and select Done in the top-right corner to save.
- These contacts will appear in the Favorites list now. To add or remove contacts, tap on Manage Favorites option.
From Call Screen:
You can also manage your favorite contacts from the Call tab.
- Go to Calls tab and tap on Add to Favorites.
- Select the contacts you want to favorite and tap on Done at the top-right corner.
- Tap on More and then either select Edit to delete favorite contacts or select Add to Favorite to add new ones.
Meta has been busy adding features to the popular messaging app recently. In April, they introduced the Meta AI, which is an AI chatbot much like ChatGPT (OpenAI) or Gemini (Google). You can use Meta AI to ask questions, create replies, solve math problems, explain or write stories, and generate photos on the fly using just text prompts inside the chat itself. We used it for some time and shared our thoughts on the same. Do read.
But that wasn’t enough. Meta is working on a feature that will soon allow you will be able to edit existing photos inside WhatsApp. I expect it to have standard features like background and object removal tools, image enhancers, etc.
For now, enjoy these features and stay safe.
And that’s it, folks.
