WhatsApp has been busy adding new features lately. We recently got new camera effects, selfie stickers, fun filters and AR effects, and the ability to scan documents. Now, WhatsApp’s new beta update lets you add music from Meta’s library to your status updates, just like on Instagram Stories. Let’s learn how to add music to your status.

How to Add Music to Your WhatsApp Status
This feature lets you add a musical layer to your status updates, making them even more engaging and personal. The option appears when you select a photo or video to post. You can search for songs, artists, or trending tracks and seamlessly integrate them, just like you do with Facebook and Instagram stories.
Adding music to your WhatsApp status is currently available to some beta testers on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.2.5, available on the Google Play Store through the Google Play Beta Program. You can also sideload the beta app to see if it’s available for you.
Once the music sharing feature is available on your app, here’s how to use it:
- Open WhatsApp and tap on the Updates tab from the bottom toolbar.
- Tap My Status to add a new status, and then add the photo or video that you’d like to share.
- When you choose an image or video, you’ll see a new Music option in the drawing editor.
- Tap on it to browse through Meta’s extensive music library. Choose your desired track.
- Select the 15-second snippet of the song you want to feature on your status.
- Once done, make any other customizations if needed (such as adding text or captions), and post the status update.

When others view your status, they’ll see the song displayed alongside your photo or video. They can also view the song name and the artist’s Instagram profile. It’s a great way to support your favorite musicians and help them reach new fans.
