1. WhatsApp Gets Its Own Phone Dialer
WhatsApp initially introduced a floating action button in the calls tab, allowing users to place calls directly without saving contacts in their address book. While this feature offered quick access to the call dialer, it also took up screen space, making the calls tab feel cluttered, especially for users with an extensive call history.
WhatsApp has now moved this functionality to the menu. You will find the Call a number option in the search menu. This makes it easy to call unsaved numbers when you know you won’t have to call that number even again. One example can be customer support or Uber drivers. Another example can be international audio/video calls or business calls where using a carrier could prove expensive.
2. Select Participants in Group Call
Now you can select specific people before making a group call from a group chat. For example, if you want to call more than one person from a group but want to leave out that one annoying person, you can do it directly.

Now there’s a new Effects option with filers and backgrounds for video calls. WhatsApp has added ten effects for video calls. Some of the effects include puppy ears, diving underwater, or grabbing a virtual microphone for a karaoke session.
4. More Reliable and Higher Resolution Video Call
Calls are now more reliable on both desktop and mobile. You can make video calls in higher resolution and will notice clearer videos in one-to-one and group calls. But is the video quality as good as Facetime on iPhones? Tell us more on X.
5. Desktop Calling Is Easier Than Ever
WhatsApp has made significant updates to its desktop app, making it easier to connect with others through calls. When you navigate to the calls tab on the desktop version, you’ll now find a more streamlined interface that brings everything into one convenient place.
All the options like starting a call, creating a call link to share with others, or directly dialing a number are easily accessible in the left sidebar.
