News and leaks about the new S25 series have already started trickling down even as I prepare for the Samsung Unpacked event. According to Android Headlines, Samsung may skip the Galaxy S25 Plus variant this year. But why should it? Let’s dig deeper.
Historically, the sales have been poor for the Plus series leading to disappointment. Here is what I found while researching the sales figures of Galaxy S22+, S23+, and S24+ series.
Model | Sales Figures | Key Points |
---|
Samsung Galaxy S22+ | Below expectations (exact figures not widely available) | The S22 series faced a challenging market and did not meet Samsung’s sales targets overall. |
Samsung Galaxy S23+ | Solid, part of the successful S23 series with 4.52 million units sold. | Over 2.1 million units within the first month (21% of total S24 series sales) |
Samsung Galaxy S24+ | Better than expected sales figures due to value for money proposition selling over 6.9 million units (reportedly 54% jump). | A significant improvement over S23 series, with notable increases in key markets like the US, Western Europe, and South Korea. |
The S24 Plus did well compared to its previous variants, thanks to better specs and an improved spec-to-price ratio. The S24+ got a better display (1440 x 3120) compared to the S24 this year while both S23 and S23+ were equipped with the same display (1080 x 2340). That may have contributed to the value proposition. However, it seems Samsung has lost faith or it is not worth it.
Leaks have confirmed the existence of the S25 and S25 Ultra, however, S25+ is nowhere to be seen so far. The model numbers are: SM-S931B/DS, SM-S938B, SM-S938U, SM-S938N, and SM-S9380. Regular Galaxy S25 and the S25 Ultra are here but the S25 Plus is amiss.
On one hand, the S Plus variant has failed to shine but on the other hand, sales have picked up for the S24+. But maybe, it is still falling short of the Android giant’s expectations. Samsung is no stranger to cutting down on variants either. It used to unveil four variants previously (remember the S10 series) but then trimmed down to 3 variants with the S21 series. Will it axe another variant? Time will tell. Follow us to stay updated.
