But kids are also stuck at home and with the COVID-19 outbreak on its peak, it’s not a great idea to send them out. So, to keep them active and occupied there are several workout apps build specially for kids. These apps not only make exercising fun but for the most part, require minimal to no guidance. Best Workout Apps for Kids to Keep Them Moving

I would recommend that, initially, you workout with your kids and encourage them. This helps them easily get into the habit of exercising. Later, it’s easy for them to carry out on their own.

1. Exercise for Kids

To start off, Exercise for Kids is the most basic kid’s workout app. It has a total of 15 exercises complemented with an animated video illustration. You begin the exercises by simply tapping the start button on the home page. There’s a separate exercise section that provides benefits of specific workouts. Besides all of this, there is a simple BMI calculator and a calendar that reflects your child’s progress. Basically, there isn’t much to modify but if you like, you can change the difficulty of each exercise and also set an exercise reminder for your kid.

What’s good?

  • In-built BMI calculator
  • Workout reminder

What’s not?

  • Very few of exercises

2. Workout for Kids

If your kid loves animation, he might spend a lot of time with this app. You can straightaway jump into exercising with the start workout button right on the home screen. There is a countdown timer for each workout and you can simply refresh the exercise to start the timer again. Similar to other apps you can choose an individual exercise. There are two major drawbacks I found in the app. The first being unresponsive buttons which makes the app lag a lot. Secondly every time your pause, refresh or go back, you can’t go back, so you’ve to exit most of the time.

What’s good?

  • Animated exercises
  • Rest section with calming background music

What’s not?

  • Too many ads on every click
  • Many ghost and unresponsive buttons

3. Yoga for Kids and Family

I need not be telling you about the benefits of Yoga, but Yoga is beneficial and suitable for every age group. This app is a minimal Yoga app with an extremely colorful UI. Talking about the exercises, the poses are divided into sections with varying intensity – easy, medium and hard. If your kid loves animals there is an animal section as well. He can mimic the pose of his favorite animal. Besides that, there are short nutritional tips, an in-built weight tracker and a 30-day Yoga challenge, that a kid can follow.  The only drawback is pop-up ads but those can be removed with a one-time fee of $1.5.

What’s good?

  • 30 day Yoga challenge for kids
  • Reminder and Weight tracker

What’s not?

  • Annoying pop-up ads.

4. Yoga For Kids

Unlike the above-mentioned app, Yoga for Kids has a pretty confusing home page. But it’s quite functional on the inside. As you hit start on the home page, it starts the exercise with a countdown and animated illustration of the pose. Alternatively, you can start a pose from the guide section. It has all the Yoga poses and a clear how-to demonstration of the pose.

Moreover, if you feel like doing it as you read the how-to, just hit the play button to start the timer. Other common features include reminders and an in-built calendar. Although there are ads, it’s just restricted to the home screen, so you can enjoy your workout time without any disturbance.

What’s good?

  • Illustration before every Yoga pose
  • Guide section with proper How-to

What’s not?

  • Nothing

5. Morning exercises for kids

The smaller your kid is, the harder it is to maintain their attention span. Morning exercises for kids brings working out in the form of a graphical game. It’s colorful and has a piece of peppy music to keep your kid energized. There aren’t many things you can control in the app, all you can do is hit the play button on the home screen to start the exercises.

It has an animated kid who performs a combination of exercises along with the instructional voice. It’s great for kids as it doesn’t require an adult to supervise. The choice of exercises included in the app is fairly simple. Such as jumping, knees up, head rotations, kicks, etc. After you’re done, just click on exit and start again when you’re ready. Simple yeah?

What’s good?

  • Graphical instructional character with voice support
  • Just play and exercise is very simple

What’s not?

  • No option to set reminders
  • No option to choose a specific exercise

6. Super Stretch Yoga

Super Stretch Yoga is another fun Yoga app for kids that has a storyline to keep your kid engaged. It revolves around a super-hero character called “Super-stretch” and his animal friends with their Yoga poses. There are 12 poses in total which are taught using animation, music and video examples. Everything is on the home page. From breathing exercises to down dog position. Every pose has videos of kids performing the pose along with very interactive audio instructions.

I’m not sure how willing your kid will be to use this app, but with the kind of graphics supports, I’m sure he’ll have a lot of fun.

What’s good?

  • Great animation and graphics
  • Instructional voice makes it easy to follow

What’s not?

  • Restricted to mostly animal poses
