- Google has added the ability to upload video in Gemini.
- You can now ask Gemini questions about a video and even get a summary for it.
- The feature is currently rolling out for Android and web users.
Last month, Google rolled out its Veo 3 model, allowing Gemini to create highly detailed videos. Now, Google is adding the ability to upload videos to Gemini so it can check and analyze them. The AI model can see what’s happening in the video to help you with your queries. Here’s how you can upload videos to Gemini for analysis and summarization.

Gemini Now Lets You Upload Video For Analysis
Google has rolled out the stable version of Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash models to users worldwide. There’s also a new Gemini 2.5 Lite mode made for classification and summarization tasks.
Furthermore, Google is also adding the ability to upload video to Gemini for analysis and summary. Currently available only on the Android app and PC, using the feature is pretty easy.
Once the video is uploaded, you can ask Gemini questions about the video, such as what’s happening, or get help in looking for certain items in the video. An example can be your car keys, a bottle, or that vintage watch. Furthermore, Gemini will also highlight that particular part of the video with a text response.
Do note that the analysis can take a while to complete, depending on the length of the video itself. You can also upload multiple videos, and Gemini will answer your queries accordingly.
Use Cases And Limitations

For example, I came across an interesting gadget on a reel, but I couldn’t find the buying link for it. So I uploaded the video to Gemini.
After doing an analysis, Gemini was not only able to give me details about the product but also buying links for three different websites. I then asked follow-up questions about the products and other things shown in the video.

Similarly, I uploaded a video of a match between chess titans Magnus Carlsen and Gukesh. Gemini was able to identify both of them. I also asked Gemini about the winner of the match and it answered correctly.

One limitation is that it cannot identify people whose names are not mentioned in the video. For instance, I uploaded a reel from the TechWiser channel, but it couldn’t identify the name of the host.
Even after multiple attempts and prompts, I was only able to get an incorrect answer since Gemini relies on reverse Google Search for identification.
There is no option to directly record and upload video in the app. The camera option within Gemini can only take photos. You can only submit your existing videos for summary and questions to Gemini.
How To Upload Videos In Gemini
The process of uploading videos in Gemini is pretty straightforward and simple. Currently, the option is only visible in the Android version of the app and on PC.

Here’s how you can use the feature:
- Open the Gemini app on your Android phone
- Tap on the Plus icon in the left corner
- Choose the Files or Gallery option
- Find the video that you wish to upload
- Enter the question or prompt you wish to ask
- Wait for the upload to complete and press Send.
It’s a useful feature that gives Gemini an edge over competitors like ChatGPT. ChatGPT only offers a Gemini Live like functionality and lets users upload photos and not videos.
The feature is currently in the rollout phase and available on my Gemini Pro account. You can check if the feature is available when uploading a video from your computer or phone.
