YouTube Releases New AI Features for Premium Users

YouTube has released new premium features for the subscribers of its premium plans. Yes, these new featuers are meant for paying users only. Let’s quickly see what they are.

Jump to Favorite Moments

YouTube already allows double-tapping to move forward or backward while viewing a video. The new Jump to Favorite feature works a bit differently. When you double-tap, a new Jump option will appear. Tapping on the Jump button will directly take you to the next section in the video.

YouTube says the feature is powered by AI and viewership data that will automatically figure out where you want to go – the best parts of the video. Of course, you can expect YouTube to learn from your viewing habits and patterns to provide better ‘Jump’ locations in a video.

Picture-in-Picture Mode for Shorts

YouTube Shorts continues its battle against Instagram Reels with a new tool. Sighting the popularity of the format, YouTube has introduced picture-in-picture or PiP mode for YouTube Shorts.

That means that combined with a large screen or dual-screen smartphone like Fold or Flip, you can multitask while watching a short video. Examples include browsing, cooking, or fixing something that’s broken.

Access to Experimental Features

Google experiments with a lot of features and most of them never see the day of light. As a premium subscriber, you will have early access to these experimental features now. You can access them now at YouTube New URL. Here are a few you can try now:

  • Shorts Smart Downloads – recommended shorts will be downloaded automatically using smart downloads.
  • Conversational AI – a returning feature to YouTube’s Android app in the US. It can answer questions and suggest related content.
  • Redesigned Watch Page – Interface changes how videos, recommended video titles and description boxes appear to improve the viewing experience.

Would You Try the Premium?

These new features alone won’t entice anyone to join the YouTube Premium plan. But I think the family Premium plan is well worth the price. You get access to an ad-free viewing experience on YouTube, plus you also get access to YouTube Music. Granted, the curation could take a cue from Spotify and Apple Music, but it is value for money nonetheless. So, are you a YouTube Premium subscriber or planning to be one?
