NVIDIA currently positions DLSS 5's 3D-Guided Neural Rendering as a feature for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs. Older RTX cards continue to support other DLSS technologies, including Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction, while RTX 40 Series also supports Frame Generation.

The RTX 40 Series entries above are marked Planned based on the compatibility data used for this guide. However, NVIDIA's current public DLSS hardware table presently lists 3D-Guided Neural Rendering only for RTX 50 Series, with RTX 40 Series showing support for Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, and Super Resolution instead.
In other words, RTX 40 Series owners should not assume DLSS 5 is available today. Check NVIDIA's latest driver notes and the specific game's graphics settings before expecting the feature to appear.
Does DLSS 5 Require an RTX 50 Series GPU?
For now, DLSS 5 supported GPUs are limited to NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series. RTX 40 Series GPUs are listed as planned for DLSS 5 support, while RTX 30 and RTX 20 Series cards are not supported. This makes an RTX 50 Series GPU the current requirement for using DLSS 5. Many games support the DLSS 5 technology, but it has officially launched only for a few games as of now.
That's an important distinction because older RTX cards can still use several DLSS features. Having DLSS support does not automatically mean a GPU can use every feature introduced in DLSS 5.
