Rockstar Games has dropped the official GTA 6 launch trailer, and it has everything we'd expect from the next Grand Theft Auto: high-speed chases, explosive heists, questionable life choices, and plenty of Jason and Lucia. However, one detail stands out from all the chaos. Jason reveals that his time in the Army ended badly, giving us a new clue about his past and what pushed him toward a life of crime. The trailer also packs in a few interesting details that deserve a closer look.
GTA 6 Trailer Reveals Jason's Troubled Army Past
The biggest reveal comes right at the beginning of the trailer. Jason talks about his military background, saying, "I got in some trouble in the Army, didn't leave on the best of terms."
He also explains that banks won't give loans to people like him. That small detail suggests his military past has left him with financial problems and limited options. Rockstar hasn't explained exactly what happened during his service, but Jason clearly didn't walk away from the Army on good terms.
Until now, we've mostly seen Jason working around the Leonida Keys and getting involved in shady jobs. This new detail adds another layer to his character. He tried a different path, something went wrong, and now he's back in a world of crime. We've already covered what we know about Jason's background in our GTA 6 characters guide, but this trailer gives us a more direct hint about his troubled past.
The trailer also shows Jason receiving a collect call from Lucia while she's in prison. It looks like their story brings together two people with complicated pasts who might be looking for a way out, even if their idea of a fresh start involves a few armed robberies.
GTA 6 Trailer Has Several Details You Might Have Missed
Jason's Army confession might be the highlight, but Rockstar has packed the trailer with smaller details worth noticing.
- A skyscraper mission that feels like GTA 5's FIB mission: One sequence immediately reminded me of the FIB building mission from GTA 5. The high-rise setting and action have a similar vibe, although Rockstar hasn't confirmed the mission's identity or purpose. Could we be looking at another elaborate infiltration job?
- Lucia jumping onto a moving aircraft: Lucia pulls off a wild stunt by jumping onto the landing gear of a moving aircraft. If this is how Rockstar wants to tease the action in GTA 6, I can't wait to see what the actual missions have in store.
- An ankle monitor on Lucia: Look closely at Lucia's leg, and you'll spot what appears to be a lock or monitoring device around her ankle. It could point to electronic supervision or house arrest following her time in prison. Rockstar hasn't explained the device yet, so we'll have to wait for confirmation.
- The Leonida Keys get a little more attention: The trailer features signs for Goose Key and Catalan Key. These small details help flesh out the wider setting beyond Vice City. Goose Key also sounds like a possible Top Gun reference, although that's just a guess for now.
- Jason's night-vision goggles light up his face: This is a tiny visual detail, but it's a good one. Jason's night-vision goggles visibly cast light across his face instead of simply tinting the scene green. It's the kind of detail you might miss on your first watch, but it helps sell the atmosphere.
Of course, the trailer also delivers the usual GTA madness. We get bank heists, police chases, exploding helicopters, snakes, buckets of fried chicken, and more intimate moments between Jason and Lucia. Rockstar knows exactly how to balance its criminal chaos with the relationship at the center of the story.
GTA 6's New Trailer Introduces a New Song
The trailer also debuts "Flower in a Hurricane," a new track by Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
Justice is also composing the game's original score, making the new song a fitting introduction to the soundtrack. Its energetic sound works well with the trailer's quick cuts between action, romance, and the colourful chaos of Leonida.
Rockstar has confirmed that it captured the trailer entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5. So, while this is a cinematic montage rather than an extended gameplay demonstration, the footage offers another look at how the game is shaping up on current-generation hardware.

When Does GTA 6 Release?
Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That leaves us with just over a month to go before we can finally explore Vice City and the rest of Leonida ourselves.
You can follow our GTA 6 release date and time countdown for the latest launch details. Follow our gaming handle on X for more scoop on GTA news and insights.
The new trailer doesn't reveal an entirely new set of missions or give us a long stretch of raw gameplay. Instead, it offers another look at the game's world while giving us a much more interesting clue about Jason's past. His Army troubles could play an important role in shaping his story, especially as his partnership with Lucia pulls him deeper into crime. For now, Rockstar is keeping the big answers under wraps, and we're left pausing the trailer, checking the background, and coming up with increasingly unhinged theories until launch day.
