4 Challenge Types in Gears of War E-Day

1. Foundations Challenges

Foundations challenges are permanent objectives that never expire. They are designed as an introductory track covering the core mechanics of both Versus PvP and Horde Siege PvE and can be completed at your own pace at any point after launch. Returning players or players familiar with Gears of War can knock them out quickly, while newer players can use them as a guided introduction to the game's systems. Completing all Foundation challenges unlocks the Arm Reload cosmetic on top of the individual rewards from each objective.

2. Weekly Challenges

Weekly challenges are a pool of 12 recurring multiplayer objectives that reset at the end of every week. The 12 tasks are split evenly between the two main modes, with 6 challenges for Horde Siege PvE and 6 for Versus PvP. Completing them awards XP ranging from 1000 to 5000 per challenge depending on difficulty. If you do not finish a challenge before the weekly rotation ends, it expires and is replaced by a new set, so staying on top of them each week is worth doing.

3. Seasonal Challenges

Seasonal challenges are long-term objectives designed to be completed over the course of an entire 8-week season. Each season drops exactly 20 seasonal challenges spread across both Versus and Horde Siege modes. Unlike weekly challenges, these do not expire at the end of each week, giving you the full season to complete them. Seasonal challenges offer cosmetic unlocks as rewards, making them the main source of more exclusive customisation items outside of event content.

4. Event Challenges

Event challenges are limited-time objectives tied directly to active live-service events running throughout each season. During Season 1 Emergence, three themed events will each introduce their own specialised challenge tracks:

  • The Halloween Event
  • The 20 Years of Gears Event
  • The Thanksgiving Event

Event challenges expire when their corresponding event ends, so these are the most time-sensitive objectives in the game.

Gears of War E-Day's challenge system is designed to reward consistent play across all modes without forcing a daily grind. Foundations give you a permanent starting point, weeklies keep you coming back each week, seasonals give you a long-term goal to work toward, and events add limited-time bursts of themed content throughout the season.
